A Cassius nevű, több mint egytonnás hüllő halálát a Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat közölte Facebook-oldalán. Az állat életkorát 110 évre becsülték.
A világrekorder krokodil október közepe óta gyengélkedett, gondozói szerint előrehaladott kora miatt. Cassius sokkal hosszabb életet élt, mint vadon élő társai.
A sósvizi krokodil 1987 óta volt a turisták által felkapott Cairns város közelében, a Green-szigeten lévő menhely lakója, ahova az Északi Terület nevű régióból vitték oda. A térségben fontos idegenforgalmi látványosságot jelentenek a krokodilok.
Cassius 2013-ban, a 6,17 méteres Fülöp-szigeteki Lolong halála után nyerte el a világ legnagyobb fogságban élő krokodilja címet a Guinness Világrekordoktól.

A 26 éves Savitri Kumar heves vitába keveredett férjével Indiában, a 27 éves Ravi Kumarral.

A 2,3 méter hosszú, 10-12 éves hím állatot első alkalommal július végén látták a közép-bangladesi Faridpur kerületben. A helyi erdészeti hatóság vezetője, Nirmal Kumar Paul elmondta, az állatot a falu lakói fogták be hétfőn, miután a hatóság képviselőinek nem sikerült kiemelni a vízből az állatot.
A mocsári krokodil valószínűleg a 2500 kilométer hosszú Gangeszen át Indiából került az országba.
A mocsári krokodilok (Crocodylus palustris) az édesvízi krokodilok közé tartoznak, vadon Indiában, Pakisztánban, Nepálban, Srí Lankán és Iránban fordulnak elő. Populációjuk a becslések szerint 5400-7100 egyedre rúg.
Bangladesben a Természetvédelmi Világszövetség (IUCN) információi szerint 50 éve láttak utoljára élő mocsári krokodilt.
Az elfogott állatot a világ legnagyobb mangroveerdejében, a Szundarbanszban lévő vadvédelmi központba vitték, később egy állatkertbe költöztetik át.
