A Big Brother Watch szerint a Southern Co-Op által használt rendszer komoly adatvédelmi aggályokat vet fel, mivel akkor is figyel, amikor a vásárlónak nincs róla tudomása.
Az arcfelismerő rendszerek előnyeit többször hangoztatták már a szakértők. Éppen ezért ma már nemcsak a nagy technológiai vállalatok alkalmazzák ezeket, hanem például boltok is – azért, hogy kiszúrják a tömegben azokat, akik esetleg (ilyen-olyan bűncselekmények miatt) körözés alatt állnak.
Ilyen arcfelismerő rendszert használ többek közt az Egyesült Királyságban mintegy 200 üzlettel rendelkező lánc, a Southern Co-Op is. Nem mindegyik boltjukban használják, „csak” 35-ben. Azonban egy jogvédő szervezet, a Big Brother Watch így is komoly aggályokat fogalmazott meg az üzemeltetéssel kapcsolatban, ami után írásbeli panaszt nyújtott be az Egyesült Királyság információs biztosának hivatalához (ICO).
A szervezet úgy véli, hogy a rendszer üzemeltetése egyáltalán nem jogszerű, hiszen a platform által rögzített képek mindenkiről elkészülnek, aki betér a 35 bolt valamelyikébe. Sokan azonban nem is tudnak róla, hogy figyelik őket, ami „hátborzongató viselkedés” egy üzlet részéről – fogalmaztak a beadványban a BBC szerint.
A boltok üzemeltetője reakciójában azzal érvelt, hogy a Facewatch nevű eszközt csak ott működtetik, ahol korábban rablás, lopás vagy egyéb bűncselekmény történt. Az eszközt pedig csakis a személyzet védelme miatt vezették be. Hozzátették azt is, hogy a rendszer alapvetően arra hivatott, hogy ellenőrizze a boltba betérőket, akad-e köztük olyan, akinek a biometrikus adata szerepel valamely hatóság listáján. Ez pedig – fogalmaztak – nem egyenlő a kémkedéssel.

Az áruházban azért is döntöttek e mellett a megoldás mellett, mert a havonta eltulajdonított termékek értéke elérte az 50 ezer fontot, tehát a mintegy 23 és fél millió forintot. A kezdeményezést Emily Spurrell rendőrkapitány is támogatja, aki úgy fogalmazott, hogy senkinek sem szabadna olyan helyzetbe kerülnie, hogy ne tudjon lopás nélkül ételt tenni a családja asztalára.
Mivel az ötlet kivitelezése még nem teljesen tisztázott, és számtalan konfliktust szülhet, ezért az áruház dolgozóinak egy speciális képzésen kell részt venniük, hogy különbséget tudjanak tenni a tolvajok között. A programot egyébként Ian Byrne munkáspárti képviselő terjesztette elő.

Heathrow Repülőtéren 40,2 fokot mért a MetOffice (Brit Meteorológiai Hivatal), melyet végül egy tizeddel múlt felül a Coningsby-ban mért 40,3 fokos érték, ami bő másfél fokkal haladta meg a 2019. június 29-én mért rekordot. Ezzel együtt legalább 34 állomáson regisztráltak magasabb hőmérsékletet az eddigi rekordnál.
Az extrém hőség nem tart már sokáig, nyugat felől érkezik a felfrissülést hozó hidegfront. Délnyugat-Angliában már 30 fok alá csökkent a hőmérséklet.

Az Egyesült Királyság bizonyos részein első alkalommal érheti el a 40 Celsius-fokos hőmérsékletet az időjárás. Az extrém meleg miatt fennakadásokra kell számítani a tömegközlekedésben és az áramszolgáltatásban, hiszen szakértők az eddigi, országos melegrekord megdöntésére számítanak. Szombattól jövő hét keddig kell betartani Anglia-szerte az extrém hőhullám miatti óvintézkedéseket.
35 fok körüli hőmérsékletre számítanak Nagy-Britanniában a következő napokban – a szigetország déli részén azonban még ennél is magasabbra kúszhat a hőmérő higanyszála, így első alkalommal kerül kézzelfogható közelségbe, hogy elérjék a negyven fokos hőmérsékletet.
„Ez extrém meleg. Az a fajta meleg, amit az ember a nyaralása alatt elvisel, de napi szinten viselve komoly hatásai lehetnek az egészségre – csakúgy, mint a közlekedésre és az áramszolgáltatásra” – mondta a BBC meteorológusa, aki szerint mindezt az ország feletti anticiklon és a Dél-Európa felől érkező meleg levegőnek együttesen köszönhető. A hőmérséklet sok helyen éjszaka sem csökken majd 25 fok alá. Enyhülés leghamarabb szerdától várható.
Az eddigi legmagasabb hőmérsékletet 2019-ben, Cambridge-ben mérték: ekkor 38,7 fokot mutatott a hőmérő. „Alig három éve, hogy megdöntöttük a melegrekordot, és ezek a rekordok nem azért vannak, hogy ilyen gyakran megdöntsük őket. De a melegedő bolygó miatt félő, hogy ezt egyre gyakrabban fogjuk tapasztalni” – figyelmeztet a szakértő, aki felhívta a figyelmet arra is: az 1700-as évek második feléhez képest 1,1 fokkal emelkedett a globális átlaghőmérséklet, ez pedig egészen addig emelkedni fog tovább, míg a kormányok nem kezdik el drasztikusan visszavágni károsanyag-kibocsátásukat.
A hőhullám miatt fokozódik a nyomás az egészségügyön is: hármas szintű vészhelyzetet rendeltek el. A hatóságok a közelgő extrém meleg miatt igyekeznek tájékoztatni az embereket, mi ilyenkor a teendő: igyanak sokat, hidratálják magukat, figyeljenek oda a veszélyeztetettekre, idősekre, a függönyöket tartsák összehúzva, a nap közepén pedig ne menjenek ki a szabadba.

Megkezdődött szombaton az ukrán hadseregnek London által felajánlott nagyszabású kiképzési program a brit fegyveres erők több nagy-britanniai támaszpontján.
Boris Johnson távozó brit miniszterelnök néhány héttel ezelőtti kijevi látogatásán ajánlotta fel Volodimir Zelenszkij ukrán elnöknek, hogy Nagy-Britannia 120 nap alatt tízezer ukrán katonának tart kiképzési programokat.
A program során a Downing Street megfogalmazása szerint „a brit hadsereg harcban is bizonyított szakértelmének” felhasználásával nyújtanak kiképzést és gyakorlati ismereteket az ukrán fegyveres erőknek. Nagy-Britannia az Orbital nevű művelet keretében 2015-től az Ukrajna ellen február végén indított orosz háború kezdetéig is több mint 22 ezer ukrán katonának nyújtott kiképzést.
A szombaton kezdődött új program keretében az ukrán katonák háromhetes kiképzési kurzusokon vesznek részt.
A brit védelmi minisztérium tájékoztatása nem tér ki a pontos helyszínekre, a tárca csak annyit közölt, hogy a képzési programok az Egyesült Királyság északnyugati, délnyugati és délkeleti térségeiben zajlanak 1050 brit katona bevonásával.
A minisztérium szerint a kiképzésen az ukrán fegyveres erőkhöz csatlakozó önkéntes újoncok vehetnek részt, akiknek csekély vagy semmiféle katonai tapasztalatuk nincs; ők olyan szaktudást sajátíthatnak el, amelynek a frontvonalbeli harci cselekményekben vehetik hasznát.
A kiképzési program a brit fegyveres erőknél alkalmazott alapkiképzésre épül, elemei közé tartoznak a fegyverhasználati ismeretek, a hadszíntéri elsősegélynyújtás, általános harctéri tudnivalók, járőrözési taktikák, valamint a fegyveres konfliktusokra vonatkozó jogi ismeretek.
A tájékoztatás szerint a brit védelmi minisztérium gyorsított eljárással az AK gépfegyvertípus különböző változatait szerezte be a kiképzéshez annak érdekében, hogy az ukrán katonák olyan fegyverekkel gyakorolhassanak, amilyeneket a tűzvonalban is használnak majd.
A tárca szerint a brit fegyveres erők Welsh Guards nevű alakulata 17 nap alatt több mint 2400 ilyen fegyvert tesztelt, biztosítandó, hogy e fegyverek az ukrán katonák rendelkezésére álljanak a kiképzési program elkezdéséhez.
A brit védelmi minisztérium szerint teljes mértékben London biztosítja a kiképzésben részes ukrán katonák egyéb felszerelését is, köztük hideg és meleg időben használatos katonai öltözeteket, személyi védőfelszereléseket, hálózsákokat és lövészárkok kiépítéséhez szükséges eszközöket.
Nagy-Britannia régóta Ukrajna egyik legnagyobb nyugati fegyverszállítója; az orosz invázió február végi kezdete óta Ukrajnának nyújtott brit katonai segély értéke eléri a 2,3 milliárd fontot (1100 milliárd forint).
London eddig több száz hordozható légvédelmi rakétarendszert, több mint ötezer könnyű páncéltörő fegyvert, nagy hatótávolságú precíziós rakétafegyverzeti rendszereket, páncélozott járműveket, a hadszíntéri utánpótlás eljuttatására szolgáló, nagy teherbírású drónokat, több ezer éjjellátó berendezést, 155 milliméteres önjáró tüzérségi lövegeket és tüzérségi ütegek lokalizálására alkalmas radarrendszereket adott át az ukrán hadseregnek.

Nagy-Britanniában elkezdődött az ukrán fegyveres erők katonáinak NATO-szabványok szerinti kiképzése, a tervek szerint a felkészítésen 10 000 ukrán harcos vesz részt – jelentette be csütörtökön Vadim Prisztajko, londoni ukrán nagykövet, számolt be az rbc.ua hírportál.
A jelentés szerint a diplomata azt mondta, „körülbelül 10 ezer ukrán katonát képeznek ki Nagy-Britanniában a NATO-szabványoknak megfelelően. Már 1500 katonánk itt van. Hetente 100-200 ember fő érkezik.” A közlése szerint az ukrán harcosok nem csak kiképzésen vesznek részt brit oktatókkal, hanem egyenruhát és fegyvert is kapnak.
Mint hírportálunk június 17-én beszámolt róla, Boris Johnson, Nagy-Britannia miniszterelnöke be nem jelentett kijevi látogatása során felajánlotta Volodimir Zelenszkijnek elnöknek, hogy tömegesen képezik ki az ukrán hadsereg katonáit brit területen. Mint Johnson megjegyezte: „az ukrán hadsereg brit rakétákkal védi országa szuverenitását, de ugyanazokat a szabadságjogokat is, amelyeket természetesnek tartunk. Ezért javasoltam Zelenszkij elnöknek egy új, nagyszabású katonai kiképzési programot, amely megváltoztathatja ennek a háborúnak a kimenetelét.” Mint tárgyalópartnereinek hangsúlyozta, Nagy-Britannia hadserege képes 120 naponként akár 10-10 ezer ukrán katona kiképzésére is.

Szokatlan problémákat okoz az ukrán–orosz konfliktus a Microsoft brit felhős szolgáltatásának felhasználói, illetve annak potenciális új ügyfelei számára. A cég helyi adatközpontjaiban a beszámolók szerint olyan kapacitáshiány alakult ki, hogy az új partnerek kiszolgálása sem biztosított.
Nem tud új ügyfeleket kiszolgálni Nagy-Britanniában a Microsoft felhős üzletága a termékportfólió bizonyos kulcselemeit illetően, miután a cég helyi adatközpontjainak tartalék kapacitásait gyakorlatilag teljes mértékben felemésztette az ukrán kormányzati infrastruktúra hoszting-igénye – számol be az esetről a Telegraph. A helyzet ráadásul rövid távon biztos nem fog megoldódni, mivel a még mindig tartó félvezetőhiány miatt az adatközponti kapacitásbővítés komoly nehézségekbe ütközik.
A kapacitáshiány a lap beszámolója szerint az Azure termékportfólió két fontos termékét, a Cosmos DB-t és a virtuálisgép-konstrukciót, konstrukciókat érinti, ezeknél a megoldásoknál nem ad el új kapacitást a szolgáltató a helyi piaci szereplők számára, függetlenül azok méretétől. A Microsoftnak két régiós adatközpontja található Nagy-Britanniában, a déli és nyugati régió adatközpontjait egyaránt érinti a fenti kapacitásprobléma.
A lap megkeresésére a Microsoft megerősítette, hogy a két érintett régióban kapacitásproblémákkal küzd a vállalat, elsősorban mivel az utóbbi két évben a felhős szolgáltatások iránti igény ugrásszerűen megnőtt, miközben az egész iparágat nyomasztják az olyan kedvezőtlen hatások, mint a globális ellátási láncok problémái, melyek összességében megnehezítik a gyors kapacitásbővítést.
A Microsoft a brit központok mellett a legtöbb európai adatközpontjában jelentős kapacitásszűkében van, miután a cég az ukrán–orosz konfliktus februári kitörése óta gyakorlatilag a teljes ukrán kormányzati infrastruktúrát az európai szerverein hosztolja, ezzel hozzájárulva a támadás alatt álló ország működőképességének fenntartásához.
Bár a kormányzati infrastruktúra kereskedelmi felhőszolgáltatásokban hosztolása felvethet bizonyos szintű kiberbiztonsági aggályokat, sok választása jelenleg nincs Ukrajnának, az ukrán területeken található infrastruktúra-elemek elleni fizikai támadások (pl. bomba- vagy rakétatámadás) ugyanis gyakorlatilag a háború első napjától kezdve rendkívül kockázatossá tették a helyi (on-premise) üzemeltetést.
Szakemberek szerint az ehhez hasonló esetek ráirányíthatják a figyelmet arra, hogy a felhős infrastruktúra kapacitása is véges – bármennyire is ennek az ellenkezőjét állítják az üzemeltetők –, ami könnyen megváltoztathatja a legnagyobb piaci szereplők tárgyalási pozícióját a beszállítói szerződések megkötésekor.

Nyomkövetővel láthatják el az Egyesült Királyságba „veszélyes vagy szükségtelen” útvonalon érkező illegális bevándorlókat − írja a BBC brit közszolgálati televízió hírportála.
Ez első körben azokat érintené, akiknek ruandai deportálását a héten az Emberi Jogok Európai Bíróságának (EJEB) határozata megakadályozta.
Ezeket a személyeket kijárási tilalom alá vonják, és akik nem működnek együtt, azok ellen büntetőeljárást indíthatnak, illetve börtönbe is zárhatják őket.
A belügyminisztérium közlése szerint a 12 hónapos próbaidőszak csütörökön vette kezdetét. Ez idő alatt tesztelnék, hogy a gyakorlat segít-e az illegális bevándorlókkal való kapcsolattartásban, valamint abban, hogy kérelmük gyorsabb és hatékonyabb elbírálásban részesüljön. Emellett adatokat is gyújtenek arról, hogy hányan szöknek meg közölük.
Az még kérdéses, hogy miszerint választják ki, kiket látnak el nyomkövetővel, azonban a belügyminisztérium hangsúlyozta, gyermekek és terhes nők biztosan nem lesznek a program részesei.
Az így megjelölt személyeknek rendszeresen jelentkezniük kell bevándorlási központokban, vagy a rendőrségen.
Az új gyakorlat kritikusai szerint az eljárás emberi jogokat sért, valamint bűnözőkként kezeli az üldöztetés elől menekülőket.
London áprilisban kötött új migrációs és gazdaságfejlesztési egyezményt a ruandai kormánnyal. E megállapodás alapján mindazokat, akik illegálisan lépnek be brit területre, a brit hatóságok áttelepíthetik a közép-afrikai országba. A ruandai kormánnyal kötött egyezménynek – amely tartalmaz egy 120 millió fontos gazdaságfinanszírozási csomagot is az afrikai ország számára – nincs felső számbeli korlátja, London szerint Ruandának megvannak a kapacitásai akár több tízezer ember letelepítésére is a következő években.

A szervezők bejelentették, hogy az idei Eurovíziós Dalfesztivál második helyezettjének számító Nagy-Britanniában rendeznék meg az eseményt jövőre, mivel a nyertes Ukrajnában nem lehet megvalósítani biztonságos körülmények között.
Az idei, Olaszországban tartott Eurovíziós Dalfesztiválon az ukrán Kalush Orchestra bizonyult a legeredményesebbnek. A banda azóta már licitre bocsátotta a győzelemért járó kupát, hogy ezzel is segítsék háború által sújtott országukat, mivel a befolyt összegből drónokat vásárolnának. A hagyomány szerint a jövő évi rendezvényt az első helyezett országában, tehát Ukrajnában rendeznék meg, ám erre a háborús helyzetnek köszönhetően nem sok esély van – írja a Daily Mail.
Az eseményt szervező European Broadcasting Union (EBU) legutóbbi közlése szerint tárgyalásokat folytattak az UA:PBC ukrán közszolgálati műsorszolgáltatóval arról, hogyan lehetne biztonságosan megrendezni az Eurovíziót jövőre az országban. Ám végül különböző szakértőkkel megvitatva a biztonsági kérdéseket úgy határoztak, hogy a jelenlegi körülmények között erre nincs lehetőség. Az EBU ezt követően vette fel a kapcsolatot a BBC-vel, mivel az idei Eurovízió második helyezettje a brit Sam Ryder lett, így felmerült, mi lenne, ha a szigetországban lenne a jövő évi verseny.
Láttuk az EBU bejelentését. Nyilvánvalóan ilyet senki nem kívánna. A döntésük értelmében természetesen megvitatjuk, miképp lehetne a BBC az Eurovíziós Dalfesztivál házigazdája – közölte a BBC.
