A világnak békére van szüksége, az ukrajnai válság megoldása a politikai vezetők bölcsességét teszi próbára – jelentette ki Ferenc pápa a Szent Péter téren vasárnap délben mondott beszédében.
A katolikus egyházfő hangoztatta, továbbra is imádkozik, hogy béke legyen Ukrajnában és a világ egészében.
Az MTI szerint arra kérte a politikai élet és a nemzetközi szervezetek vezetőit, lépjenek fel azokkal az irányzatokkal szemben, melyek a konfliktust és a szembenállást erősítik.
„A világnak békére van szüksége, de nem olyan békére, amely fegyverkezési egyensúlyon alapszik, a kölcsönös félelemre épül: ez így nem jó, így visszalépünk hetven évet a történelemben” – mondta Ferenc pápa.
Kifejtette: „az ukrajnai válságnak kihívásnak kellett volna lennie, és ha van hozzá akarat, még az lehet a bölcs államférfiak számára, akik párbeszéddel jobb jövőt tudnak építeni az új generációknak”.
„Isten segítségével ez mindig lehetséges, de a politikai, gazdasági és katona stratégiákról át kell térni egy globális béketervre. Az egymással háborúzó hatalmak között megosztott világ helyett az egymást tisztelő népek és civilizációk összetartó világára van szükség” – mondta Ferenc pápa.
Az apostoli palotának a Szent Péter térre néző ablakából, szokás szerint vasárnap délben elhangzott pápai beszédet csaknem tizenötezren követték a Vatikán közlése szerint. A téren álló hívők és turisták esernyőkkel és kalapokkal igyekeztek védekezni a hőséggel szemben, sokan a tér oszlopcsarnokában kerestek menedéket.
Vasárnap délelőtt Ferenc pápa az olasz fővárosban élő kongói közösségnek mutatott be misét a Szent Péter-bazilikában. Korábbi tervek szerint a pápa most indult volna az afrikai országba, utazását azonban térdfájdalma miatt lemondta.
