Izrael az első olyan ország a világon, amely törvényi szinten tiltotta be a natúr szőrme kereskedelmét, jelentette be Gila Gamliel környezetvédelmi miniszter az erre vonatkozó rendelet aláírását követően.
A dokumentum hat hónap múlva – decemberben – lép hatályba, amely nem terjed ki a tudományos, oktatási és vallási szükségletekre.
„Aláírtam a szőrmekereskedelem tilalmát a divatiparban. A szőrmeipar világszerte több százmillió állat pusztulását okozza, és kimondhatatlan kegyetlenséggel és szenvedéssel jár. Együtt környezet- és állat baráttá változtatjuk az izraeli divatpiacot!” – írta Gamliel Twitteren.
A PETA állatvédő szervezet a dokumentumot „történelmi győzelemnek” nevezte.
Ugyanakkor a The Times of Israel, a rendelet kritikusaira hivatkozva „fogatlannak” és „szimbolikusnak” nevezte, mivel nem veszi figyelembe a szőrmék vallási okokból történő értékesítését.
Többek között továbbra is engedélyezték a strámli – kalapok (a haszid zsidók szőrmekalapja) vásárlását, amelyeket az ultraortodox zsidók ünnepnapokon és ünnepélyes alkalmakkor viselnek.
„A strámli, ami a coboly és a rókák farkából készül, akár 5000 dollárba is kerülhet. Gyakorlatilag ezek az egyedüli elterjedt szőrme a meleg mediterrán éghajlatú Izraelben” – jegyezte meg a kiadvány.
