A Mars-járó bal első veszélyelkerülő kamerája július 12-én készített felvételt a világos színű tárgyról, amelyet egyesek spagettihoz hasonlítottak. Az űrkutatási hivatal illetékesei megerősítették, hogy szerintük a tárgy a Mars-járó leszállásakor visszamaradt huzal.
A madzag a Mars-járó leszállófokáról származhat, amely egy rakétahajtású sugárhajtóműhöz hasonló alkatrész, amelyet a Mars-járó biztonságos leeresztéséhez használtak – közölte a Perseverance Mars-vizsgáló küldetés szóvivője a NASA Pasadenában található Jet Propulsion Laboratóriumában.
Sosem járt ott a Mars-járó, ahol az alkatrészt találták
„A Perseverance korábban nem járt azon a területen, ahol a madzagot megtalálták, így valószínűleg a szél fújta oda” – mondta a szóvivő a CNN szerint.
A Mars-járó jelenleg a Jezero-kráter nevű ősi deltát vizsgálja, és olyan mikroszkopikus élet jelei után kutat, amely évmilliárdokkal ezelőtt a Marsot nevezhette otthonának. Ebben a kráterben szállt le eredetileg a Perseverance 2021. február 18-án.
Amikor a Perseverance négy nappal később újra felkereste a huzalok helyszínét, az objektum eltűnt.
