A Reuters szúrta ki, hogy Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum sejk, Dubaj uralkodója jóváhagyta az Al Maktoum nemzetközi repülőtér új utastermináljának építését, nem kevesebb, mint 34,85 milliárd dollár értékben.
A sejk közlése szerint az Al Maktoum nemzetközi repülőtér lesz a világ legnagyobbja, akár 260 millió utas befogadására is alkalmas, s ötször akkora lesz, mint a dubaji nemzetközi repülőtér.
Az X-en közzétett bejegyzésében Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum sejk azt is elárulta, hogy miután elkészül, a dubaji repülőtér teljes működését fokozatosan az Al Maktoumba helyezik majd át az elkövetkező években.
Az is kiderült, hogy az Al Maktoum repülőtér 400 terminálkaput és öt kifutópályát is magában foglal majd, mindemellett pedig ez lesz a dubaji zászlóshajó Emirates légitársaság és testvér fapados légitársasága, a Flydubai új otthona, valamint a világot Dubajjal összekötő valamennyi légitársaság partnere is.
