Donald Trump volt és újból megválasztott amerikai elnököt választotta az év emberévé a Financial Times.
A londoni üzleti napilap csütörtöki kiadásában azzal a véleményével indokolta a döntést, hogy Trump az Egyesült Államok újabb kori történetének legdrámaibb visszatérését hajtotta végre négy évvel ezelőtti választási veresége óta.
A Financial Times kiemeli, hogy eddig csak Grover Clevelandet választották meg két, nem egymást követő időszakra az Egyesült Államok elnökévé.
Cleveland először 1885 és 1889, majd 1893 és 1897 között töltötte be az elnöki tisztséget.
A brit lap szerint Trump elnökségét immár „nem lehet tűnő jelenségként elintézni”. A Financial Times közölte: éppen Trump visszatérésének „figyelemreméltó jellege” miatt választotta ismét a volt és a következő amerikai elnököt az év emberévé.
A Financial Times 2016-ban, első elnökválasztási győzelme után is Trumpot nyilvánította az év emberének.
Csütörtöki cikkében a lap úgy fogalmaz: a mostani Trump éppen a 2016-os Trump pontos tükörképe. Akkori kampányára még a republikánus elit is csak legyintett egészen az utolsó pillanatig, és saját folyamatosan változó összetételű, kívülállókból álló kampánystábja, sőt maga Trump sem hitte, hogy le tudja győzni demokrata párti ellenfelét, Hillary Clintont.
Mostani kampányát azonban harcedzett profik irányították, és Trump ezúttal sokkal nagyobb figyelmet szentel kormányának összetételére is, mint 2016-ban. Akkor néhány vezető kabinettag kiválasztásán kívül másokra bízta a kinevezéseket, most viszont személyesen hallgatta meg kormányzati állásokra kiszemelt jelöltjeit – áll a Financial Times elemzésében.
Trump olyan dzsungelnek tekinti a világot, amelyben „potyázó szövetségesei” kihasználták az Egyesült Államokat, és ebben a környezetben „hajszálon függ a NATO jövője is” – fogalmaz csütörtöki írásában a Financial Times.
„A civilizált világért és a szabad Európáért vívott harcért. A hatalmas hitért akkor, amikor másak nem volt. Az állhatatosságért, amikor vereséget jósoltak. A reményért, amikor mindenki kételkedett. És mindenekelőtt Ukrajna győzelméért, amelynek egyszerűen el kell jönnie” – írta a kiadvány.
