A rozsdamentes acélból készült anatómiailag részletes figura – amelyet eredetileg a 2015-ös Burning Manra készített Marco Cochrane szobrász – most a Ferry Building előtt áll, azonban egyre kevesebb embert nyűgöz le a látványosság. Leginkább ellenérzéseket, és a város prioritásaival kapcsolatos kérdéseket váltja ki az emberekből – írja a Fox News.
Míg egyesek szerint a szobor erőt ad, sok San Franciscó-i másként értelmezi a szobrot.
A közösségi média felbolydult, miután Collin Rugg influencer videója vírusként terjedt el, amelyen egy emelőn munkások láthatók, akik a figura lábai között javítanak valamit a szobor felállítása közben.
A kommentelők azonnal reagáltak: „Semmi sem jelképezi jobban a „belváros újjáélesztését”, mint egy magas meztelen nő, akinek a hátsó felét megműtik” – írta az egyik felhasználó.
Erős kontrasztként jelenik meg, hogy a szobrot csak néhány háztömbnyire állították fel a hajléktalansággal, nyílt droghasználattal és bedeszkázott kirakatokkal küzdő területektől.
Bruce Lou a legutóbbi kongresszusi választásokon induló jelölt így nyilatkozott a szoborról:
„Nem is tudom, hol kezdjem a San Francisco városának rosszul megválasztott prioritásait” – mondta Lou. „Úgy tűnik, mintha abszolút mindenre összpontosítanának, kivéve a fontos dolgokat.”

Az eredmények magukért beszélnek” – mondta. „A büszke, ikonikus Ferry Buildinget eltakaró óriási, meztelen nő tökéletes metaforája San Franciscónak manapság”.
A visszatetszés azonban nem korlátozódott a konzervatívokra. A KQED „Senki sem kérte ezt” című kommentárjában Sarah Hotchkiss művészeti szerkesztő azt írta: „Ahogy csütörtökön felnéztem erre a monumentális acél- és hálószoborra, szégyelltem magam San Francisco városa miatt. Az R-Evolution számos problémája közül az egyik az, hogy mindannyian mi vagyunk ennek a dolognak a közönsége, és senki sem kérdezte meg tőlünk, hogy akarjuk-e.
A város legfrissebb számlálása szerint San Franciscóban több mint 8300 ember hajléktalan, a fegyveres erőszak 5%-kal nőtt, és a fokozott bűnüldözés ellenére a közbiztonság továbbra is a legnagyobb gondot jelenti. Az üres kirakatok és az üres utcák miatt még a legoptimistább „újjáélesztési” kampány is olyan, mintha maga a performansz lenne.

Lúdzsán Alhatlul tavaly kapta ezt az elismerést az Európa Tanácstól, de a feminista harcos jelenleg háziőrizetben van. A 60 ezer euróval járó díjat lánytestvére, Lina Alhatlul vette át videóö-sszeköttetésen keresztül, mivel nővérét a tavaly februári szabadon engedése után továbbra is házi őrizetben tartják a hatóságok.
„Lúdzsán feláldozta magát a szaúdi nők jobb életéért. Tevékenysége miatt elrabolták, bebörtönözték, brutálisan megkínozták, és most terroristának minősítik. De minél több idő telik el, Lúdzsán annál inkább bebizonyítja, milyen bátor és ellenálló, és mennyire hisz abban, amit tesz” – mondta Lina Alhathul a virtuális díjátadó ünnepségen.
A strasbourgi ceremónián az idei másik két jelölt, a nepáli Drukpa női buddhista rend és Juliane Lusenge női jogokért küzdő kongói aktivista is oklevelet kapott az emberi jogok védelme terén nyújtott kiemelkedő teljesítménye miatt.
A kitüntetést Václav Havel egykori csehszlovák, későbbi cseh elnökről, drámaíróról nevezték el, aki Csehszlovákiában az ellenzéki értelmiség vezéralakja volt. A díjat nyolcadik alkalommal ítélték oda, az ET parlamenti közgyűlésének, a Václav Havel Könyvtárnak és a Charta 77 Alapítványnak a hozzájárulásából.

A kiadvány helyszíni tudósítása szerint a menet a Szent Mihály térről (Mihajlivszka ploscsa) indult szoros rendőrgyűrűben, és másfél óra múlva a Posta téren ért véget. A szivárványos vonulást hagyományosan most szélsőséges nacionalista szervezetek aktivistái próbálták megakadályozni, de ezúttal elmaradtak részükről a menet elleni közvetlen támadások, ehelyett tulipánokkal dobálták a vonulókat.
A menetelők idei fő követelése a nők jogainak karantén alatti fokozott védelme volt az elbocsátásokkal, családon belüli erőszakkal szemben. Ugyancsak követelték, hogy a Legfelső Tanács ratifikálja a nők elleni erőszak megfékezéséről szóló Isztambuli Egyezményt, amely a gender fogalmat is törvényesíti. Ezt Ukrajna és több más kelet-európai állam is elutasítja.
A vonulás befejezése után a menet résztvevőit felszólították, hogy rendőri védelem mellett a Postova ploscsa metróállomáson át hagyják el a helyszínt a számukra biztosított speciális metrószerelvényekkel.
