Egyik legnehezebb feladata a gyümölcstermelőknek, hogy megszervezzék a betakarítási munkálatokat. Sok megbízható emberre van szükségük, akik rövid idő alatt segítenek leszedni a gyümölcsöket a fákról.
Azonban ez egy elég kemény és csak szezonális munka, így az emberek inkább választják a megbízható, állandó, városi munkahelyeket. Ez pedig azt hozza magával, hogy a termelők egyre kevésbé találnak munkaerőt, és egyre nagyobb problémát jelent számukra a termés betakarítása.
Ezt a problémát ismerte fel a Tevel Aerobotics Technologies izraeli vállalat, akik kifejlesztettek egy mesterséges intelligencia alapú autonóm repülő robotot, amely képes a gyümölcsöket önállóan betakarítani. A drónszerű robotok a nap 24 órájában képesek dolgozni, és a munka 100 százalékát ellátni emberi segítség nélkül.
Továbbá képesek azonosítani, hogy melyik gyümölcs leszedhető, és melyiket kell még érni hagyni. A szüretelendő gyümölcs kiválasztása után a robot megtalálja a lehető legjobb megközelítést, stabilan megáll a levegőben és a szedőkarját kinyújtva megragadja a gyümölcsöt, amit aztán a gyűjtőládába tesz.
A tervezők szerint a robotok sokkal precízebben dolgoznak, mint az emberi munkaerő, ezért mindenképpen ez jelenti a jövőt. Nem csak hatékonyabb lesz robotokkal dolgozni, de a költségek csökkentéséhez is nagyban hozzájárulhatnak.
