A kínai mitológiában szereplő szerencsehozó állat, a kilin, valamint a garnéla kínai neve után Kylinxia zhanginak elnevezett teremtmény fosszíliáját egy Jünnan tartománybeli sziklaképződményben fedezték fel.
A Nature című tudományos folyóiratban publikált tanulmány szerint a Kylinxia a kambrium időszakában élt különböző állatok fizikai sajátosságait viselte, ilyen volt a megkeményedett felhám, a szegmentált törzs, az ízelt lábak, az öt szem és a zsákmányszerzést segítő nagyméretű ollók.
A fosszília tanulmányozása alapján a szakemberek arra jutottak, hogy a Kylinxia egy eddig hiányzó láncszemként helyezkedik el a kihalt anomalocaris típusnem és az ízeltlábúak között.
A tanulmány egyik szerzője, a Kínai Tudományos Akadémia kutatójaként dolgozó Csu Mao-jen szerint a Kylinxia értékes információkkal szolgál a korai állatok eredetéről és evolúciójáról.
