A Pentagon vizsgálja annak lehetőségét, hogy ellenőröket küldjenek Ukrajnába, akik közvetlenül szereznének információt az Egyesült Államok által Ukrajnának adott fegyverek használatáról. Ezt Jed Royal, a Pentagon Védelmi Együttműködési Ügynökségének helyettes vezetője nyilatkozta.
Jelenleg a Pentagonnak az ukrán féltől származó információkra kell támaszkodnia az Egyesült Államok által Ukrajnának biztosított fegyverek használatával kapcsolatban. Royal megjegyezte, hogy az ukrán féllel való koordináció hatékonyan zajlik.
„Az ukránokkal való kommunikáció rendkívül aktív, és az ukránoktól kapott bizonyítékok arra vonatkozóan, hogyan használják és védik ezeket a rendszereket, azt mondanám, jók és kielégítőek” – nyilatkozta.
Az amerikai törvényhozók nagyobb elszámoltathatóságot sürgettek a védelmi segélyek felhasználását illetően. Májusban a republikánusok, John F. Kennedy és Rand Paul azt javasolták, hogy nevezzenek egy felügyelőt, aki ellenőrizni fogja, hogy Ukrajna hogyan használja fel a védelmi segélyeket.
