A brit hatóságok hozzávetőleg kétszáz olyan, zömmel albán állampolgárságú gyermek után kutatnak, akik menedékkérők számára fenntartott angliai hotelekből tűntek el – közölte a brit belügyminisztérium bevándorlási államtitkára.
Robert Jenrick a londoni alsóház képviselőinek tartott tájékoztatásában elmondta: 2021 óta 4600 gyermek érkezett Nagy-Britanniába azzal a szándékkal, hogy menedékjogot kérjen. Közülük 440-nek nyoma veszett nem sokkal érkezése után, eddig az eltűnt gyermekek fele került elő – mondta a belügyi tisztviselő. Jenrick hozzátette: az eltűntek 88 százaléka tinédzserkorú albán fiú.
Az államtitkár rendkívül aggasztónak nevezte a történteket, hangsúlyozta ugyanakkor: nem találkozott arra utaló bizonyítékokkal, hogy a gyerekeket elrabolták volna. Az ügy előzményeként az Observer című hétvégi brit hetilap azt írta, hogy az eltűnt gyerekek közül többtucatnyit a dél-angliai Brightonban, a kormány által menedékkérők számára fenntartott szállodák elől, illetve a déli partvidék más helyszínein az utcáról raboltak el embercsempész bandák.
A lap forrásai szerint csak az egyik dél-angliai szállodában hatszáz, szülők és gondviselő nélkül érkezett gyermek fordult meg az utóbbi 18 hónapban, közülük 136-nak az eltűnéséről érkezett bejelentés a hatóságokhoz. Az Observerhez eljutott adatok szerint az ebből a szállodából eltűnt gyerekeknek több mint fele, 79 azóta sem került elő.
A lap forrása közölte, hogy látta, amint a szálloda előtti utcaszakaszon ismeretlenek autókba tuszkoltak gyerekeket. A belügyminisztérium szóvivője cáfolta, hogy a gyerekeket elrabolták volna, mondván: a fiatalok szabadon távozhatnak szálláshelyükről. Keddi alsóházi felszólalásában Robert Jenrick államtitkár is úgy fogalmazott, hogy nem tártak elé olyan bizonyítékokat, amelyek a gyerekek elrablására utalnának.
Caroline Lucas, az egyik brightoni választókörzet zöldpárti képviselője, aki az Observer-cikk nyomán felvetette az ügyet a londoni parlamentben, a keddi alsóházi vitában „elképesztő nemtörődömséggel és hozzá nem értéssel” vádolta a kormányt.
Peter Kyle, aki a legnagyobb ellenzéki erő, a Munkáspárt szintén brightoni képviselője a londoni alsóházban, a keddi vitanapon elmondta: rendőrségi adatok támasztják alá, hogy bandák gyűjtik össze a környékről a menedékkérő gyerekeket, akiket aztán erővel bűncselekmények elkövetésére kényszerítenek.
Rishi Sunak brit miniszterelnök múlt hónapban bejelentette, hogy a kormány gyorsított eljárással küldi vissza a Nagy-Britanniába érkező albán menedékkérőket, mivel Albániát teljesen biztonságos országnak tartja, és semmi okot nem lát arra, hogy albán állampolgárok brit menedékjogért folyamodjanak.
