Akár kétéves szabadságvesztés is járhat a jövőben a nyilvános helyen történő szexuális zaklatásáért a brit kormány törvényjavaslata szerint – írja a BBC. A belügyminiszter által támogatott tervezet szerint törvénysértés lesz „beszólogatni” az utcán, követni vagy elállni az útját valakinek.
A YouGov közvélemény-kutató cég által a BBC számára készített, márciusban közzétett felmérés szerint a nők kétharmada nem érzi biztonságban magát, ha éjszaka egyedül sétál, legalábbis bizonyos esetekben.
A BBC cikke megjegyzi, hogy a szexuális zaklatás jelenleg is büntetendő, de az utcai zaklatás külön beemelése a szabálysértések közé több embert ösztönözhet arra, hogy jelentsék a rendőrségen.
A törvényjavaslat szerint a fentiek mellett azt is szankcionálnák, ha valaki szándékosan lelassít valaki mellett autóval vagy motorral. Ezentúl törvénybe ütköző lenne az is, ha valaki obszcén vagy agresszív megjegyzést tesz valakire az utcán, vagy sértő gesztusokat tesz felé. A szigorúbb büntetésért kampányolók azt is szeretnék elérni, hogy a füttyögésnek és „zavaró bámulásnak” is lehessen jogi következménye.
A törvényjavaslat jelenleginél komolyabb büntetési tételt is bevezet, és hat hónapról két évre emeli a maximálisan kiszabható büntetés mértékét.
