A vakcinációt a kínai Sinovac Biotech oltóanyagával kezdik meg, amelynek klinikai vizsgálataiban 18 és 59 év közötti alanyok vettek részt.
A társadalmilag mobilisabb és gazdaságilag aktívabb csoportok beoltásával a kormány azt reméli, hogy az indonéz lakosság viszonylag gyorsan elérheti a nyájimmunitást.
A közgazdászok érvelése szerint egy körülbelül 100 millió embert „felölelő” sikeres oltási programra lesz szükség ahhoz, hogy az ország gazdasága regenerálódni tudjon, és azért is fontos a munkaképes korú népesség immunizálása, mert ők a gazdaság hajtóereje.
