A komplexum ugyanis kénytelen volt bezárni márciusban, amikor a koronavírus miatt országos szintű karantént rendeltek el. Azóta kevés szállodának engedélyezték az újbóli megnyitást, és azóta sem sokan büszkélkedhetnek egy 7,5 millió literes medencével, amelyet alternatív célra használtak fel.
„Nincsenek bevételeink, ezért júniusban körülbelül 16 000 gyöngyházas indiai tarkasügért helyeztünk a medencébe” – mondta az Aveda ügyvezető igazgatója, Jyotish Surendran.
Ez a halfaj körülbelül nyolc hónap alatt éri el a teljes méretét, és népszerű eleme a dél-indiai és a közel-keleti konyhának. „Azt tervezzük, hogy novemberre lehalásszuk, és a Közel-Keletre exportáljuk” – tette hozzá Surendran, aki arra számít, hogy az úszómedencében felnevelt négy tonnányi hal ára körülbelül 40 000 USD, azaz 12 millió forintra rúghat a piacon.
„Ez a bevétel persze nem fedezi a világjárvány okozta veszteségeket, amely sok szállodát csődbe vitt” – mondta a szálloda főnöke. Ugyanakkor Surendran abban reménykedik, hogy a pénzből az alapszámlákat fedezni tudja, így az üzlet addig is működhet, amíg a turisták visszatérnek.
Az Aveda azt tervezi, hogy továbbra is tart majd halakat, még akkor is, ha a szállodaipar újraindul.
„Nem tarthatjuk fent a halfarmot a medencében, de megpróbálunk alternatív földterületeket találni, ahol ezeket az ismereteket nagyobb projektekbe lehet beépíteni” – mondta.
