Azonnali hatállyal lemondott posztjáról a Twitter vezérigazgatója, Jack Dorsey – jelentette be a vállalat. Helyét Parag Agrawal, a vállalat technológiai igazgatója veszi át, Dorsey ugyanakkor legalább jövő évig az igazgatóság tagja marad.
A Twitter társalapítója 2015 óta töltötte be a vezérigazgatói pozíciót, emellett pedig a Square nevű pénzügyi céget is ő irányítja. A BBC szerint a részvényesek 2020-ban már jelezték, szeretnének egy olyan embert látni a vállalat élén, aki csak a Twitterre fókuszál.
Jack Dorsey egyszer már kénytelen volt elhagyni a Twittert – 2008-ban, vagyis két évvel a cég alapítása után –, majd 2015-ben tért vissza, amikor az akkori Twitter-vezér, Dick Costolo távozott.
Dorsey távozását 2020-ban a Elliott Management befektetési cég követelte, ám a Twitter megállapodott vele, hogy 2 milliárd dollár értékben vásárol tőle vissza részvényeket.
Vasárnap Dorsey még azt írta ki a Twitter-csatornájára: „Imádom a Twittert.”
Dorsey közleményben jelentette be a távozását. Azt írta: „Úgy döntöttem, elhagyom a Twittert, mert úgy érzem, a cég készen áll arra, hogy az alapító után valaki más vezesse.”
Hangsúlyozta, hisz Paragban, a szakember elmúlt 10 évben végzett munkáját pedig jelentősnek tartja. „Itt az ideje, hogy ő vezesse a céget” – emelte ki Dorsey. A kollégáinak azt írta, a döntést nehezen, de ő hozta meg. A szakember mindenkinek megköszönte az eddigi munkát.
