Az amerikai védelmi miniszter, Pete Hegseth elrendelte a Gerald R. Ford repülőgép-hordozó harccsoportjának áthelyezését a Karib-térségbe, ami az USA katonai jelenlétének növekedését jelzi a régióban.

„Az Egyesült Államok elnökének azon utasításával összhangban, amely a nemzetközi bűnszervezetek felszámolását és a narkoterrorizmus elleni harcot szolgálja a haza védelme érdekében, a védelmi miniszter a Gerald R. Ford repülőgép-hordozó harccsoportot és annak repülőszárnyát az USA Déli Parancsnokságának műveleti területére irányította” – áll a közleményben.
Parnell hangsúlyozta, hogy az amerikai katonai jelenlét növelése fokozza az USA képességét az illegális tevékenységek felderítésére, nyomon követésére és megszüntetésére, amelyek veszélyt jelentenek az Egyesült Államok biztonságára és jólétére a nyugati féltekén.
