 Sokak elmondása szerint szinte táncolt az égen: előbb lilás, majd pedig zöldes árnyalatban. A jelenségről csodás felvételek születtek.
 
 A sarki fényt a Napból érkező töltött részecskéknek a Föld mágneses mezejével létrejövő kölcsönhatása okozza. Az ütközések során a részecskék energiája elektromágneses sugárzás formájában szabadul fel, ezt látjuk sarki fényként. A jelenség jellemzően a Föld mágneses pólusai közelében figyelhető meg, erősebb geomágneses viharok alkalmával azonban időnként a sarkoktól távolabb is láthatóvá válik.
