Károly brit herceg és Diana hercegnő 40 éves esküvői tortájából egy szelet 1850 fontért, vagyis több mint 774 ezer forintért kelt el egy nagy-britanniai aukción szerdán – jelentette az MTI. Arany, vörös, kék és ezüst színű királyi címer díszíti a 23 hivatalos esküvői torta egyikéről lekanyarított hatalmas szelet marcipánalapot és fehér bevonatot.
A tortaszeletet egykoron Moya Smith, a királynő Clarence House-i személyzetének egyik tagja kapta, aki alufóliába csomagolva, egy régi fémdobozban őrizte meg a különleges desszertet.
A dobozon levő címkén az áll, hogy bánjanak vele óvatosan, ezenkívül szerepel még rajta Károly herceg és Lady Diana neve is, továbbá esküvőjük dátuma, vagyis az 1981. július 29-ei időpont.
Smith családja 2008-ban egy gyűjtőnek adta el a tortaszeletet, most viszont újra árverésre bocsátották. Az édesség leütési árát eredetileg 300-500 font környékére becsülték.
Az aukción végül óriási licitharc után egy interneten licitáló közel-keleti vásárló vitte el az édességet.
