Rekordáron, 368 ezer fontért kelt el egy hat hónapos bárány egy skóciai árverésen – számolt be róla a The Guardian pénteki online kiadása.
A Double Diamond (dupla gyémánt) nevű juhot izgalmas licitharc után vette meg három tenyésztő, akik összeálltak, hogy megszerezzék az izmos testű, óarany szőrű állatot a csütörtökön a Glasgow melletti Lanarkban rendezett aukción.
Jeff Aiken, a három gazda egyike már hetekkel a licitálás előtt kinézte magának a „genetikailag tökéletes” Double Diamondot.
„Ugyanúgy, mint más állatok, például a lovak vagy a marhák között nagy ritkán felbukkan valami egészen különleges, ilyen volt ez a rendkívüli Texel juh. Mindenki akart belőle egy darabot.” – mondta Aiken.
A kis holland Texel-szigetről származó fajta egyedeire nagy a kereslet, rendszeresen fizetnek értük több tízezer fontot, ám a csütörtöki licitharc különösen heves volt. Amikor elkezdődött, nemcsak a három gazda, hanem más tenyésztők is csoportokat alkottak, hogy megszerezzék a bárányt, melynek eladási ára világrekordot döntött: ennél drágábban juh még nem kelt el aukción.
A korábbi csúcsot 2009-ben állították fel, akkor több mint 230 ezer fontot fizettek egy birkáért. A legtöbb pénz, amit Aiken valaha bárányért adott, 105 ezer font volt, egy Sportsman Batman nevű kost vett meg rajta.
