30 Konfuciusz Intézet működik jelenleg az Egyesült Királyságban. Ezeket a kínai állam tartja fenn, és hivatalos céljuk a kínai nyelv és kultúra terjesztése. A brit és az amerikai kémelhárítás szerint azonban hírszerzést is folytatnak az intézetek azon kívül, hogy terjesztik a Kínában hatalmon levő kommunista párt propagandáját.
„Látjuk, hogy a kínai kommunista párt mennyire elnyomja azokat, akik nyíltan bírálják. Nem engedhetjük meg, hogy egy autoriter rendszer az országa nyelvét tanítsa nálunk” – hangsúlyozza a törvényjavaslat egyik fő támogatója, a brit parlament külügyi bizottságának elnöke. Tom Tugendhat távolról sem az egyetlen konzervatív politikus, aki támogatja a Konfuciusz Intézetek betiltását – írja a brüsszeli Politico. Sok más tory prominens mellett Iain Duncan Smith, a konzervatívok egykori vezetője is kiáll a módosító javaslat mellett.
Boris Johnson miniszterelnök, aki csak nemrég élt túl egy bizalmi szavazást a konzervatív pártban, nem könnyen hagyhatja figyelmen kívül ezeket a nézeteket. Más oldalról viszont a Konfuciusz Intézetek betiltása diplomácia ellentétekhez vezetne Pekinggel.
A felsőoktatási törvényjavaslat, amelyről a jövő héten szavaz a brit parlament eredetileg csak annyit irányzott elő, hogy az illetékes miniszternek figyelemmel kell kísérnie a Konfuciusz Intézetekhez hasonló külföldi intézmények működését és finanszírozását.

A világ legidősebb és leghosszabb ideje, 1952 óta regnáló uralkodójának hivatalos születésnapi ceremóniája a színpompás Trooping the Colour. Ezt a tisztelgő katonai parádét mindig júniusban rendezik, jóllehet a valós születésnap II. Erzsébet királynő esetében április 21-re esik.
A rendezvény egyúttal a brit uralkodó trónra lépésének 70. évfordulója alkalmából szervezett négynapos ünnepségsorozat első nagyszabású eseménye is volt.
II. Erzsébet királynő először 1951-ben volt jelen a Trooping the Colour rendezvényén, akkor még hercegnőként, nagybeteg édesapja, VI. György király képviseletében. A következő évben már királynőként őt köszöntötték a felvonuló díszalakulatok, és az uralkodó azóta mindig jelen volt a ceremónián.
A rendezvényt 1955-ben, az akkori országos vasutassztrájk miatt törölték, tavaly és tavalyelőtt pedig a koronavírus-járvány miatt csak igen szűk körben, a királynő windsori rezidenciáján, közönség nélkül tartották meg a parádét. Csütörtökön viszont 1500 katona és 400 fős katonazenekar részvételével, két év kihagyás után újból teljes pompájában, több százezres tömeg jelenlétében megtartották a többórás díszszemlét.
A királynő a korábbi években díszes hintóban utazott a Buckingham-palotából a Trooping the Colour helyszínére, a palotától egy mérföldnyire lévő lovastestőrségi laktanya, a Horse Guards Parade gyakorlóterére. Ezúttal azonban – az udvar indoklása szerint mozgásproblémái miatt – a palotában maradt, és a laktanyánál elsőszülött fia, Károly trónörökös és Károly legidősebb fia, Vilmos herceg képviselte a királynőt.
A parádén az Egyesült Királyság három majdani uralkodója is jelen volt, hiszen Károly és Vilmos mellett Vilmos és felesége, Katalin hercegnő három gyermeke is részt vett az ünnepségen, köztük György herceg, Vilmos és Katalin legidősebb fia, aki édesapja trónra lépése után szintén trónörökösi rangra emelkedik majd. A családtagok közül ugyanakkor most első ízben hiányzott a királynő néhai férje, Fülöp edinburghi herceg, aki tavaly áprilisban, századik születésnapja előtt néhány héttel halt meg.
A díszszemle után a Buckingham-palotánál is díszes őrségváltást tartottak, és ezt II. Erzsébet királynő családtagjai társaságában a palota híres teraszáról tekintette meg, csakúgy, mint a brit királyi légierő (RAF) gépinek tisztelgő átrepülését, amit a többszázezres ünneplő tömeg egetverő üdvrivalgása kísért.

Steven Gallagher 13 évvel ezelőtt az arcán észlelt kiütések és jobb karjában tapasztalt fájdalom miatt fordult orvoshoz. Először kéztőalagút szindrómát diagnosztizáltak nála, amit megműtöttek, de miután a fájdalom mindkét kezébe visszatért, egy szakorvos szklerodermát, a bőr és a belső szervek sebesedését okozó autoimmun betegséget állapított meg.
Két keze a betegség miatt teljesen ökölbe szorult, többé nem tudta az ujjait kiegyenesíteni, nem tudott fogni. A Dreghornból származó, háromgyermekes tetőfedő a munkáját is kénytelen volt feladni.
Andrew Hart professzorhoz, egy glasgow-i plasztikai és kézsebész szakorvoshoz került, aki felvetette a kettős kézátültetés lehetőségét. Gallagher a kockázatos műtétről Simon Kay professzorral, a Leeds-i Oktatókórház plasztikai sebészével is beszélt, aki 2016-ban az Egyesült Királyság első dupla kézátültetési műtétjét vezette.
Gallaghert 2021 decemberében operálta meg Leedsben egy 30 fős, különböző szakemberekből álló orvoscsoport, miután megtalálták számára a megfelelő donort. Az orvosok szerint ő lehet az első szklerodermás ember a világon, akinél elvégezték a műtétet.
Alighogy a férfi felébredt az altatásból, már képes volt mozgatni a kezeit. Négyhetes kórházi kezelés után most már csak fizikoterápiára és ellenőrzésre kell visszajárnia. Elmondta, hogy begombolkozni még nem tud, de meg tudja simogatni a kutyáját, el tudja zárni a csapot és meg tud tölteni vízzel egy poharat. Hozzátette: szép lassan, hétről-hétre javul az állapota, és reményei szerint egyszer majd dolgozni is tud.
A legfontosabb, hogy elviselhetetlen fájdalmai megszűntek, most egyáltalán nem fájnak a kezei – hangsúlyozta.

A Royal Mail a következő három évben 500 drónosra bővíti flottáját, mellyel főként nehezen megközeltíhető területeken, a Hebridákon, a Scilly-szigeten, a Shetland-szigeten és az Orkney-szigeteken javítja majd szolgáltatását.
Az Egyesült Királyság ezen területeire jelenleg komppal, repülővel és szárazföldi úton szállítják ki a küldeményeket, de a rossz időjárás ellehetetlenítheti ezt. A drónok használata segít a szén-dioxid-kibocsátás csökkentésében is a Sky News cikke szerint.
Az elmúlt másfél évben már kísérleti jelleggel alkalmaztak drónokat Scilly és Mull szigetén. Az új szolgáltatás tesztrepülései a shetlandi Lerwick és a szigetek északi részén található Unst közötti közel 160 kilométeres útvonalat is teljesítették. Napi két repüléssel 100 kilogrammos terhet szállítottak, a küldeményeket pedig a postáig vitték, ahonnan a helyi kézbesítő szállította ki a küldeményeket a címzetteknek.
A szolgáltatás a Polgári Légiközlekedési Hatóság jóváhagyásától függően indulhat el élesben, a Windracers dróngyártó céggel partnerségben.
A Royal Mail célja 500 fős drónflottát kialakítani, mellyel az ország teljes területét le tudja fedni.
„Célunk a pontos kézbesítés, függetlenül ügyfeleink tartózkodási helyétől vagy az időjárástól, miközben megóvjuk a környezetünket. Annak ellenére, hogy bárhová eljutunk, a Royal Mail már most is a legalacsonyabb szén-dioxid-kibocsátással rendelkezik egy kézbesített csomagra vetítve. Ez a kezdeményezés segít még tovább csökkenteni a kibocsátásunkat” – mondta el a cég vezetője, Simon Thompson.
2019-ben az Amazon már arról nyilatkozott, hogy hónapokra van attól, hogy drónokkal szállítson csomagokat, de a szolgáltatás eddig nem indult el, valószínűleg még fejlesztés alatt áll.

A szobornak nem volt átadója, az emlékművet pedig direkt egy három méter magas talapzatra állították, hogy nehezebb legyen kárt okozni benne – olvasható a Telex vasárnapi cikkében.
A portálon azt írják: a szoborállítás napján többen is készítettek szelfiket Thatcherrel, de több sofőr is hangosan fújolt az autójából, amikor elhaladt mellette.
Egy férfi egy ideiglenes kordon mögül dobálta meg a szobrot tojással.
Kelham Cooke helyi konzervatív képviselő szerint Margareth Thatcher mindig is Grantham örökségének része lesz, a politikus itt született, itt nőt fel, itt járt iskolába, ezért adja magát, hogy a szülővárosában legyen egy szobor róla. Cooke szerint nem szabad az embernek elbújnia a történelme elől, és ez a szobor generációkon át lesz beszélgetések tárgya.
Margaret Thatcher 1979 és 1990 között volt Nagy-Britannia első női miniszterelnöke. Reformálta az adókat, privatizálta az állami cégeket, az inflációt sikerült letornáznia, de óriási munkanélküliséget okozott a munkássága alatt.

Az egészségügyi tisztviselők közölték, hogy vizsgálják, hol történt az átvitel, és hogyan fertőződtek meg ezek az emberek – írja a Guardian.
A majomhimlő kezdeti tünetei közé tartozik a láz, fejfájás, izomfájdalom, hátfájás, duzzadt nyirokcsomók, hidegrázás és kimerültség.
Kiütés is kialakulhat, és az emberek általában két-négy héten belül felépülnek. A vírus főként Közép- és Nyugat-Afrika trópusi erdeiben fordul elő.
„Fontos hangsúlyozni, hogy a betegség nem terjed könnyen az emberek között, és a fertőzött, tüneteket mutató személlyel való szoros, személyes érintkezés szükséges hozzá. A lakosságot érintő általános kockázat továbbra is nagyon alacsony” – mondta Dr. Colin Brown, az UKHSA klinikai és újonnan kialakuló fertőzésekért felelős igazgatója.

Az alkalom azért is különleges idén, mert a 96 éves uralkodó a platinajubileumát ünnepli. A Buckingham-palota most arról adott hírt, hogy a királynő döntése értelmében csak a királyi család dolgozó tagjai és a gyerekeik lesznek ott az erkélyen, vagyis sem Harry hercegnek és feleségének, Meghan Markle-nek, sem András hercegnek, a királynő zaklatási ügybe keveredett fiának nem lesz helye az ünneplők között. Az ikonikus erkélymegjelenés ad alkalmat az integetésre és persze a rengeteg fotóra, és ezek szerint a királynő ki akarja hagyni a lehetőségből a családnak meglehetősen sok gondot okozó családtagokat.

Anna hercegnő kaphatja meg Harry herceg egyik titulusát, amelytől szintén búcsút vett, amikor lemondott királyi kötelezettségeiről. Így II. Erzsébet lányának is lehetősége nyílik rá, hogy újabb szerepkört tudhasson magáénak. Ha kinevezik, akkor történelmet fog írni.
Harry herceg és Meghan Markle még 2020-ban döntöttek úgy, hogy lemondanak királyi kötelezettségeikről, ami egyúttal jelentette azt is, hogy Harry az Ő királyi fensége címnek is búcsút mond, sőt a Királyi Tengerészgyalogsághoz köthető rangjáról is lemondott. A pozíció így megüresedett, ám nem sokáig, mivel a hírek szerint II. Erzsébet hivatalosan is jóváhagyta, hogy egyetlen lánya, Anna hercegnő legyen az egyik esélyes utód. Ez azért is fontos, mivel így ő lenne az első női vezetője a tengerészgyalogságnak.
Már 2020 óta folynak találgatások arról, hogy Anna hercegnőnek szánják ezt a fontos szerepet, ám a hivatalos bejelentésre valószínűleg augusztusig még várni kell. A hercegnő egyébként már rendelkezik katonai címekkel, többek között a Királyi Haditengerészet tiszteletbeli tengernagya, a hadsereg tábornoka és a Royal Air Force tábornagya. Arra már tavaly fény derült, hogy várhatóan nem Vilmos herceg kapja meg testvére, Harry herceg korábbi címét, mivel attól tartottak, hogy ez nagy viszályt robbantana ki kettejük között. Ahogy II. Erzsébet legfiatalabb fia, Eduárd herceg is kiesett az esélyesek sorából, mivel 1987-ben három hét kommandós kiképzés után kilépett a hadseregből.
Anna hercegnő azért is lenne ideális választás, mivel Sir Tim Lawrence ellentengernagyhoz ment feleségül, így jobban ismeri a fegyveres erőket. Sőt, már tíz ezred vezetője, köztük van a King’s Royal Hussars, a Royal Scots, a The Gurkhas és a Royal Army Veterinary Corps. A Királyi Tengerészgyalogság vezetőjeként a feladatai közé tartozna, hogy találkozzon a jelenleg szolgáló tengerészgyalogosokkal, és részt vegyen az ünnepélyes eseményeken.
