Az újabb megrendeléssel az Egyesült Államok által megvásárolt vakcinák száma 1,4 millió adagról 1,9 millióra nőtt, jóllehet, ezek jelentős része továbbra is a vakcinagyártó dán biotechnológiai vállalat, a Bavarian Nordic birtokában marad mindaddig, amíg az amerikai szövetségi kormány nem kéri leszállításukat.

A Politico egészségügyi szakembereket idézett, akik megjegyezték, hogy a majomhimlő ellen nem szükséges tömeges védőoltás, a vakcinát csupán azoknak fontos beadni, akik veszélyeztetettek. Az egyre szaporodó esetek miatt azonban a vakcina iránti igény is megugrott: Amerika után az Európai Unió is várhatóan lezárja a tárgyalásokat a vakcinák szállításáról.
Az amerikai Járványügyi és Betegségmegelőzési Központok (CDC) az Egyesült Államok 16 tagállamában összesen 45 majomhimlő-esetet regisztrált, de szakértők szerint félő, hogy a fertőzés tovább terjedhet, csakúgy, mint ahogy az Európában is tapasztalható. Európában az azonosított fertőzöttek száma száz felett jár. Azon országok kivételével, ahol egyébként honos a vírus, a globális fertőzöttség meghaladja az 1300 azonosított esetet.
Az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) felszólította az országokat, hogy tegyék közzé a rendelkezésükre álló vakcinák számát és, amennyiben szükség van rá, vegyék fontolóra azok megosztását más országokkal. Az Egyesült Államok azonban még tette közzé a döntését.

A II. Rákóczi Ferenc Kárpátaljai Magyar Főiskolára június 7-én önkéntes egészségügyi szakemberek érkeztek az Amerikai Egyesült Államokból a Baptista Szeretetszolgálat szervezésében.
Utazásuk célja, hogy segítsenek a helyieknek és a Rákóczi-főiskola kollégiumaiban elszállásolt menekülteknek az orvosi ellátás igénybevételének megkönnyítésében. Az eredetileg egynaposra tervezett program a nagy igény miatt háromnapos lett.
Egy általános állapotfelmérést, regisztrációt és vérnyomásmérést követően a páciensek panaszaik szerint választhatták meg a kezelőorvost. A magas színvonalú, nagy értékű orvosi felszereléssel történő vizsgálatokon felül a betegeket gyógyszerekkel és vitaminokkal is ellátták az önkéntes szakemberek.
„Már több mint 800 helyi lakosnak és belső Ukrajnából érkező menekültnek segítettünk a Beregszászi kistérségben” – számolt be az egészségügyi programról Nagy Lívia, a Kárpátaljai Baptista Jótékonysági Alapítvány ügyvezető igazgatója, a Magyar Baptista Szeretetszolgálat képviseletében. Hozzátette, az orvosok nemcsak vizsgálatokat, hanem kezelést is végeznek, nagy mennyiségű gyógyszer- és gyógyászati eszközadománnyal érkeztek.
A Baptista Szeretetszolgálat Kárpátalján a háború kitörésének első napjától szállással és élelmiszerrel segíti a helyi lakosokat és a menekülteket. Ma napi szinten több mint ezer ember étkeztetését biztosítjuk – mondta Nagy Csaba, a Kárpátaljai Baptista Jótékonysági Alapítvány elnöke.
„Emellett azt látjuk, hogy nagy szükség van az egészségügyi segítségre is mind a helyiek, mind a menekültek körében. Ezért gyógyszeradományt és ingyenes kivizsgálási, ellátási lehetőséget is biztosítunk” – tette hozzá.

Ohio államban olyan törvényt készülnek elfogadni, ami lehetővé teszi, hogy a tanárokat és más iskolai alkalmazottakat felfegyverezzenek az oktatási intézményekben. Ez az állam válasza az iskolai lövöldözésekre.
A törvény támogatói reményüket fejezték ki, hogy csökkenni fognak az iskolai lövöldözések az államban, ha a tanároknál is lesznek fegyverek – írta meg a Reuters. Az Egyesült Államokban folyamatosan az iskolai lövöldözések, ami ellen Joe Biden elnök a fegyverviselést korlátozná az országban. A törvénytervezet ellenzői, többek között a pedagógusok szakszervezete és az állami rendőrtiszti szakszervezet szerint csak fokozzák a problémát, ha szervezetten visznek fegyvereket az iskolákba.
Mike DeWine, Ohio republikánus kormányzója kijelentette, hogy alá fogja írni a törvényjavaslatot.
A javaslatot a héten már elfogadta a republikánus többségű ohiói közgyűlés. A republikánusok szerint ezzel a törvénnyel a tanárok képesek lesznek szembeszállni az iskolai lövöldözőkkel, mielőtt a rendőrség a helyszínre ér.
Egy iskolai lövöldözésben másodperceken is gyerekek élete múlhat – fogalmazott Thomas Hall, a javaslat egyik fő támogatója. A fegyveres tanároknak át kell esniük egy bűnügyi háttérellenőrzésen, majd minden évben egy 8 órás továbbképzést, kiegészítő kurzust kell elvégezniük.
A törvényjavaslat szerint a tankerületeknek értesíteniük kell a szülőket, ha úgy döntenek, hogy fegyveres tanárokat alkalmaznak az iskolákban. A szülők ekkor dönthetnek úgy, hogy fegyvertelen iskolába viszik át a gyermeküket. Arról egyelőre nincs hír, hogy hány iskola fegyverezné fel a pedagógusait a törvény hatálybalépését követően.

Az orosz fél június elsején jegyzéket adott át a moszkvai amerikai nagykövetségnek a kultúráról, a bölcsészet- és társadalomtudományokról, az oktatásról és a médiáról szóló egyetértési kétoldalú megállapodás felmondásáról – jelentette be Marija Zaharova, az orosz külügyminisztérium szóvivője a pénteki sajtótájékoztatóján.
Az amerikaiaknak az orosz kultúra „eltörlését” célzó akciói oda vezettek, hogy egyszerűen nincs értelme a memorandum további megőrzésének. Június 1-jén erről értesítést küldtünk az Egyesült Államok moszkvai nagykövetségének. Ismételten felhívjuk az amerikai fél figyelmét arra, hogy Washington bármilyen barátságtalan kirohanása elkerülhetetlen és megfelelő válaszlépést fog kapni – mondta Marija Zaharova.
A szóvivő szerint többé nem elfogadható, hogy az amerikai kormányzat, miközben az orosz kultúrát és annak minden hordozóját üldözésnek veti alá, továbbra is úgy népszerűsítse projektjeit és értékeit Oroszországban a memorandum égisze alatt, mintha semmi sem történt volna.
Szerinte az orosz írók, zeneszerzők, festők, mérnökök és még a topográfusok öröksége is támadás alatt áll az Egyesült Államokban. Hozzátette, hogy ezzel nem Oroszországot büntetik, hanem a világ civilizációját.
Korábban az amerikai külügyminisztérium sajnálatát fejezte ki, hogy Moszkva felmondja a memorandumot és jelezte, hogy továbbra is szívesen látják az Egyesült Államokban az orosz diákokat és tudósokat.
Zaharova azt is közölte, hogy az orosz külügyi tárcához hétfőre bekérették az amerikai tömegtájékoztatási eszközök moszkvai képviseleteinek vezetőit, hogy tisztázzák velük Washington ellenséges irányvonalának következményeit és a médiaügyekben kialakult problematikát. Az orosz média és újságírók céltudatos zaklatásával vádolta meg az amerikai hatóságokat, valamint azzal, hogy módszeresen igyekeznek kiszorítani az információs térből a számukra nem rokonszenves hírforrásokat. Hozzátette, hogy egyes orosz tudósítók és médiumok bankszámláit zárolták az Egyesült Államokban, valamint elutasították a vízumuk és az akkreditációjuk megújítását.
Washington mindent megtesz annak érdekében, hogy ellehetetlenítse, betiltsa és korlátozza az orosz médiatermékeket és -tevékenységeket – mondta a szóvivő. Arról is beszélt, hogy az amerikai hatóságok a tisztogatásba bevonták a nagy informatikai vállalatokat is, amelyek globálisan blokkolják a hozzáférést az orosz médiához. Zaharova a legkeményebb ellenlépéseket helyezte kilátásba arra az esetre, ha az Egyesült Államokban akkreditált orosz újságírókat nem engedik ismét normálisan dolgozni.

Kevin Stitt oklahomai kormányzó aláírta az Egyesült Államok legszigorúbb abortusztilalmát, amely már a megtermékenyítéstől kezdve megtiltja az abortuszt, egyben lehetővé teszi, hogy magánszemélyek bepereljék azokat, akik segítenek a nőknek megszakítani terhességüket.
„Megígértem az oklahomaiaknak, hogy kormányzóként minden életpárti törvényt aláírok, amely az asztalomra kerül, és büszke vagyok arra, hogy ma betarthatom ezt az ígéretemet” – hangoztatta Stitt nyilatkozatában.
A republikánusok által is támogatott jogszabály, amely azonnal hatályba lép, csak orvosi vészhelyzet, nemi erőszak vagy vérfertőzés esetén tesz kivételt.
Több amerikai állam a napirendjére tűzte az abortusz kérdését, miután nyilvánosságra hozták, hogy az amerikai legfelsőbb bíróság hatályon kívül helyezheti az 1973-as Roe kontra Wade néven ismert peres eljárást, amely megalapozta az abortuszhoz való alkotmányos jogot. Egy május 2-án kiszivárgott legfelsőbb bírósági véleménytervezetből az is kiderült, hogy a testület konzervatív többsége felül kívánja vizsgálni a szövetségi abortuszjogokat, és a kérdést visszautalja a tagállamok hatáskörébe.
A New York-i székhelyű Reprodukciós Jogok Központja (Center for Reproductive Rights) érdekvédelmi szervezet közölte, hogy hamarosan megtámadja az oklahomai tilalmat a bíróságon. Kiemelte, hogy az állam vezetése annak ellenére tiltotta be az abortuszt, hogy a Roe kontra Wade ügyben született ítélet még mindig érvényben van.
Oklahoma négy érintett klinikája már leállította a terhességmegszakítást a tilalomra való tekintettel.
Már május elején életbe lépett Oklahomában az a jogszabály, amely a terhesség hatodik hete után tiltotta be az abortuszt. Mindkét törvényjavaslat végrehajtási rendelkezését a szeptemberben életbe lépett texasi jogszabály mintájára alkották meg, amelynek nyomán abban az államban beszüntette tevékenységét szinte minden, az abortusz elvégzésére hivatott klinika. Az oklahomai törvények elfogadása előtt az állam a hat hét utáni abortuszt elvégeztetni kívánó texasi nők célpontjává vált.

Egy új kutatás állítása szerint, amelynek eredménye a Nature folyóiratban jelent meg, a legtöbb amerikai gyermek elkapta a koronavírust.
A kutatók több mint 86 ezer gyermek vérmintáit vizsgálták, azt elemezve, hogy rendelkeznek-e a koronavírus ellen antitestekkel. Ebből derült ki, hogy jóval több gyermek kapta el a fertőzést, mint az eddig gondolták.
A vizsgálat eredményei szerint ugyanis idén februárig a kiskorúak többsége átesett a fertőzésen. Az arány az 5 és 11 év köztieknél volt a legnagyobb: nekik körülbelül a 77 százalékuk áteshetett a koronavíruson.
A hivatalos adatok ehhez képest ebben a korcsoportban, illetve általánosan a kiskorúaknál is jóval alacsonyabb átfertőzöttséget mutattak ki. A 18 év alattiakat nézve eddig úgy becsülték, hogy körülbelül a 17 százalékuk esett át a fertőzésen az Egyesült Államokban.
„Ez csak a jéghegy csúcsa volt” – mondta a kutatás vezetője, Kristie Clarke, utalva ezzel arra, hogy a PCR- és antigéntesztek alapján kiállított adatok nagyon nagy mértékben alábecsülték a fertőzött gyermekek számát, mivel a tünetmentes vagy enyhe, megfázáshoz hasonló tüneteket produkáló gyerekeket gyakran nem tesztelték.
A kutatók szerint a koronavírus utolsó nagy hulláma, az omikron-hullám az 1 és 4 év közti korosztályban eredményezte a legtöbb fertőzést: december és 2022. február közt náluk 33 százalékról a duplájára, 68 százalékra nőtt azok száma, akik elkapták a fertőzést.
Mindez végső soron az omikron gyors terjedőképességével magyarázható, és ahhoz is hozzájárult, hogy a delta-variáns hullámához képest az omikron idején ötszörösére nőtt a kórházban kezelt 1 és 4 év köztiek száma – még azzal együtt is, hogy az omikron-variáns az ő korosztályukban is ritkábban okozott súlyosabb megbetegedést a deltánál.

Az Egyesült Államok Ukrajnába irányuló fegyverszállításának a logisztikája úgy van kialakítva, hogy azt lehetetlenség megszakítani, az egyes tételekre mért csapások nem zavarják a katonai támogatást – jelentette ki vasárnap Jake Sullivan, az amerikai elnök nemzetbiztonsági tanácsadója, adta hírül az rbc.ua hírportál a tisztségviselő sajtótájékoztatójára hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint az újságírók arra kérték Sullivant, hogy kommentálja az orosz védelmi minisztérium kijelentését arról, hogy Ukrajnában megsemmisítették az Egyesült Államokból és Európából szállított fegyvereket. A tanácsadó azt válaszolta, hogy nincs olyan információ, amely ezt alátámasztaná.
A tisztségviselő szerint, ha az oroszok bármilyen rakományt felderítenek és lecsapnak rá Ukrajnában, az nem fogja megzavarni az amerikai katonai segítségnyújtást. „Ukrajnában változatos és stabil fegyverellátási láncaink vannak kialakítva” – szögezte le Jake Sullivan.
