Az Egyesült Államok nagyszabású katonai támogatást készül nyújtani Kijevnek, de a Biden-adminisztráció késlelteti a 200 millió dolláros segély kiutalását – adta hírül az Ukrajinszka Pravda hírportál szombaton az NBC News televízióra hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint az NBC-nek amerikai kormánytisztviselők elmondták, hogy az elmúlt hónapokban Ukrajna számos katonai szállítmányt kapott az Egyesült Államoktól, köztük december 9-én 30 Javelin páncéltörő rakétakilövőt és 180 rakétát. A televízió szerint ugyanakkor a Joe Biden-adminisztráció visszatartotta az Ukrajnának szánt 200 millió dolláros fegyverek jelentős részét, hogy diplomáciai úton próbáljon nyomást gyakorolni Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnökre.
A médium szerint az ügyben jártas három hivatalos személy jelezte neki, hogy az amerikai elnöki adminisztráció az elmúlt hetekben 200 millió dolláros katonai segélycsomagot készített Ukrajna számára, de a kijevi felszólítások ellenére késleltette a szállítást. Az amerikai televízió egyik forrása ugyanakkor elmondta, hogy van egy másik, sokkal nagyobb lehetőség is, hogy orosz invázió esetén fegyverekkel segítsék Ukrajnát. A fegyverzetből és katonai felszerelésekből álló csomag késleltetése annak tudható be, hogy Washington számolt a diplomáciai erőfeszítések hatékonyságával – emlékeztetett az informátor.

Eddig több mint 40 omikron-variánssal megfertőződött személyt azonosítottak az Egyesült Államokban, és több mint háromnegyedük volt oltott – jelezte az amerikai Betegségmegelőzési és Járványügyi Központ vezetője egy csütörtöki interjúban. Rochelle Walensky igazgató ugyanakkor megnyugtató adatokat is mondott: az új variánssal megfertőződött oltott emberek szinte mindegyikének enyhék a tünetei.
Az adatok még mindig csak nagyon korlátozottan állnak rendelkezésre, ezért a hatóság mélyebb elemzéseken dolgozik, hogy kiderítse: az új mutáció mit okoz az USA-nak – írja az AP hírügynökség.
Kiemelte, hogy általánosan igaz, hogy minél több mutációval rendelkezik egy variáns, annál magasabb szinten kellene lennie az immunitásnak a teljes védelem érdekében. Ezért szükséges minden egyén védelmének megerősítése – húzta alá. Ez áll annak a döntésnek a hátterében, hogy a CDC már az 50 év feletti korosztályt biztatja a harmadik oltás felvételére.
Az új variánssal megfertőződött személyek esetében mindenhol enyhe a betegség lefolyása, főként köhögésről, fáradságról számolnak be a betegek, eddig egy embert szállítottak kórházba, de haláleset még nem történt. A későbbiekben még lehetnek súlyos esetek, hiszen az idő előrehaladtával súlyosbodhat a helyzet.
Szerda délutánig a CDC 43 omikron-esetet regisztrált 19 tagállamban, a legtöbbjük fiatal felnőtt. Közülük egyharmada volt külföldön. A koronavírus-pozitív emberek háromnegyede két oltással rendelkezett, egyharmaduk pedig emlékeztető oltást is kapott. A CDC vezére hangsúlyozta azt is, hogy az emlékeztető oltás után legalább két hét szükséges, hogy azok kifejtsék teljes hatásukat és a legtöbb érintett fertőzött ez idő alatt kapta meg a harmadik oltását.
Az USA-ban egyébként még mindig a delta variáns a domináns, a szekvenált esetek 99%-ában azt mutatták ki, a többi esetben az omikront.

Néhány nappal később levél érkezett a környék lakóközösségétől, hogy amennyiben nem szerelik le azokat, naponta száz és ezer dollár (30 ezer és 300 ezer forint) közötti bírságot kell fizetniük.
A lakóközösség ügyvédje elmondta, hogy a szabályok szerint hálaadás, vagyis november negyedik csütörtöke előtt nem szabad felszerelni a dekorációt. A család felajánlotta, hogy addig nem kapcsolják fel a fényeket, de a közösség nem volt együttműködő.
A családfő elmondta, nem fogja leszereltetni a díszkivilágítást.
„A cégnek csak ez a nap volt jó, én pedig nem tudok felmászni a tetőre” – mondta, hozzátéve, hogy nem tudott róla, hogy szabályellenes, amit csinálnak.

A nemzetközi környezetvédő szervezet szerdán Klaus Iohannis bejelentésére reagált. Az államfő kedden az ENSZ Éghajlat-változási Keretegyezményének Glasgow-ban zajló 26. ülésén John Kerry amerikai klímaügyi különmegbízottal folytatott megbeszélést.
A találkozó után számolt be arról, hogy Románia amerikai támogatással telepít kis méretű moduláris atomreaktorokat. A Greenpeace közleményében emlékeztetett arra, hogy az amerikai nukleáris technológiára alapuló, kis méretű moduláris atomreaktorok működését nem hagyták jóvá Európában. Sőt eddig még nem épült egyetlen ilyen reaktor az Egyesült Államokban sem.
A szervezet szerint az atomenergia „elfogadhatatlan kockázatot jelent a környezet és az emberiség számára”, amint azt a csernobili és fukusimai nukleáris baleset is bizonyítja. Úgy vélik: a balesetveszély és a radioaktív hulladékok problémája mellett az atomenergia termelése túlságosan drága is.

Október 27-én az Egyesült Államok Élelmiszer- és Gyógyszerminőség-ellenőrzési Szövetségi Ügynökségének szakértői bizottsága hivatalosan is ajánlotta a Pfizer védőoltást az 5–11 éves gyerekek számára.
Mindezidáig a 12 évet betöltött gyerekek kaphatták meg a vakcinát. A megbeszélésen bemutatták egy kutatás eredményét is, mely szerint a gyerekeknek az oltás 90,7%-os védelmet ad.
A tesztelésen 4,5 ezer 5–11 éves gyerek vett részt, a résztvevők fele a Pfizer vakcinát, a többiek placebót kaptak. A gyerekek a felnőttek számára ajánlott védőoltás egyharmadát kapták. A gyártó azt állítja, hogy mindannyiuknál erős immunválasz volt megfigyelhető.
Az információk szerint a BioNTech/Pfizer vakcina 5 és 11 év közötti gyermekek számára történő alkalmazásának engedélyezése iránti kérelemmel a gyógyszer készítői az EU szabályozó testülethez is fordultak. A német és amerikai cégek sajtóközleményében az európai szabályozó minden szükséges adatot megkapott, közte az eredményeket is. A döntést várhatóan a következő hónapokban hagyják jóvá.
Fontos megjegyezni, hogy az AstraZeneca, Novavax és Johnson&Johnson szintén dolgozik a gyerekek számára való oltóanyag kifejlesztésén.

Az amerikai külügyminisztérium kibocsátotta az első, „X-gender jelzésű” útlevelet a genderbefogadó politika megvalósítása keretében – közölte szerdán a tárca a CNN amerikai hírtelevízió beszámolója szerint.
A tárca júniusban jelentette be, hogy korszerűsíti eljárásait, és ennek következtében a kérelmezők maguk választhatják ki a feltüntetendő nemüket, és nem lesz többé szükség orvosi igazolásra, amennyiben a kérelmező által megjelölt nem egyezik meg a más, hivatalos személyazonosító okmányokon szereplő biológiai nemmel.
Ned Price amerikai külügyi szóvivő szerdán közleményt adott ki, amelyben tudatta: az „X-gender jelzést” azoknak a nembináris nemű, interszexuális vagy a hagyományos gender-normarendszert el nem fogadó személyeknek hozták létre, akik útlevelet vagy a külföldön születést igazoló konzuli jelentést kérelmeznek. A szóvivő hangsúlyozta: a tárca elkötelezett minden ember – köztük az LMBTQI-személyek – szabadsága, méltósága és egyenlősége iránt.
Price szerint az új jelzést az útlevelet rutinszerűen kérelmezők 2022 elejétől használhatják, azután, hogy a tárca véglegesíti a rendszert és frissíti a nyomtatványokat.
Az „interszexuális tudatosság napját” elismerő hétfői közleményében a külügyminisztérium úgy fogalmazott: az amerikai politika célja, hogy „véget vessenek a gender, a szexuális orientáció, a genderidentitás vagy -kifejezés és a nemi jellegek miatti erőszaknak és hátrányos megkülönböztetésnek”.
Az útlevelek kibocsátására vonatkozó, genderbefogadónak nevezett politikával az Egyesült Államok csatlakozik az olyan országok sorához, mint például Kanada, Ausztrália és Új-Zéland.

A Fehér Ház még szeptemberben jelentette be, hogy novemberben feloldja a beutazási korlátozásokat, amiket még Donald Trump elnöksége alatt vezettek be a koronavírusra hivatkozva.
A repülőn érkező beutazóknak november 8. után a koronavírus elleni oltásuk igazolását, illetve az indulást megelőző három napban készült teszt negatív eredményét kell majd bemutatniuk. Karanténkötelezettség nem lesz érvényben.
