A kifizetésről a Twitter és Musk közötti pereskedésen esett szó a szeptember 6-i meghallgatáson, amely a vállalat 44 milliárd dolláros megvásárlására tett kísérletei miatt zajlik a Twitter és Elon Musk között.
„7 millió dollárt fizetnek a fickónak, hogy biztosítsák a hallgatását” – mondta Alex Spiro, Musk ügyvédje a meghallgatáson. Az ügyet ismerő személyek megerősítették, hogy az utalás a bejelentő Peiter Zatko számára megtörtént.

Rendkívül terhelő információkat hozott nyilvánosságra a Twitter egykori biztonsági vezetője, Peiter „Mudge” Zatko, s ezeket több szövetségi ügynökséggel és a kongresszussal is megosztotta – tudta meg a CNN.
Zatko a múlt hónapban szivárogtatta ki az információkat, és a mintegy 200 oldalas dokumentum nem fest hízelgő képet a vállalatról. Zatko azután került a vállalathoz, hogy támadók feltörték sok híresség, köztük Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kim Kardashian vagy épp Elon Musk fiókját. A korábban a Google, a Stripe és épp az amerikai hadügyminisztérium számára is dolgozó szakértőt ekkor vette fel Jack Dorsey, aki ekkoriban vezette a céget.
Idén januárban azonban már el is váltak Zatko és a Twitter útjai, miután a biztonsági vezető nem igazán jött ki jól a Dorsey-t követő Parag Agrawallal.
Zatko érkezése után egy biztonsági szempontból rendkívül gyengén működő céggel találkozott, ahol a dolgozók fele, több ezer ember fért hozzá kritikus fontosságú adatokhoz és beállításokhoz. Ez egyebek között adatvédelmi, de akár nemzetbiztonsági kockázatokat is magában rejt az egykori vezető szerint. A szivárogtatás is igyekszik némiképp felmenteni Dorsey-t, bár azt elismeri, hogy megbízatása végén nem nagyon törődött már a céggel az ekkoriban már bitcoinevangélistává váló vezérigazgató.
Ezzel szemben Agrawal arra kérte Zatkót, hogy a cég felügyelőbizottsága elől titkolja el a hiányosságok valós mértékét. Kifogásolja az egykori kiberbiztonsági főnök azt is, hogy a cég félmillió szerverének a fele elavult szoftverekkel működik, de szerinte a fejlesztők beavatkozásainak naplózása sem megfelelő.
A fiókok törlése során sem biztos, hogy a felhasználók adatai valóban törlődnek a kaotikus folyamatok miatt.
Ráadásul a Twitter problémái már fennálltak Zatko érkezésekor, s már 2010-ben is kipattantak hiányosságok, amelyre válaszul 2011-ben született megállapodás a Szövetségi Kereskedelmi Bizottság (FTC) és a vállalat között, ám a cég ennek betartására sem volt képes. Ugyanakkor a szakember ténykedését a Twitternél ismerő forrás szerint több kérdésben végzett a cég belső vizsgálatot, míg Zatko félreértette az FTC-vel kötött megállapodást. A bizottság és a cég megállapodásának betartását firtató vizsgálatok sem tártak fel hiányosságot.
A Twitter különösen sérülékeny a külföldi kémek tevékenységével szemben a fenti hiányosságok miatt, de az amerikai kormány arról is értesítette a vállalatot, hogy egy külföldi titkosszolgálat emberét is sikerült a cégnek felvennie. Alig két hete a Twitter egyik vezetőjét le is tartóztatták azzal, hogy a szaúdi titkosszolgálatnak dolgozik. Szaúdi befektetők egyébként jelentős tulajdonrészt birtokolnak a vállalatból, mint arra Elon Musk is rádöbbent.
A Tesla-vezér elállását a cég megvásárlásától lehetséges, hogy segíti a mostani szivárogtatás, hiszen Zatko arról is tett közzé információkat, hogy a Twitter igazából nem szeretné tudni a botok valódi számát, amelyet egyébként valóban rendkívül nehéz lehet megállapítani. Ugyanakkor a Zatko az őt képviselő Whistleblower Aid szerint – amely a Facebookról kitálaló Frances Haugent is reprezentálja – nem áll kapcsolatban Muskkal, és a szivárogtatás gondolata is hamarabb indult, mint az a gondolat, hogy Musk megvenné a Twittert.

A közösségi oldal szerint az ázsiai ország korlátozza a véleményszabadságot. A Twitter kedden jelentette be, hogy pert indít az indiai kormány ellen a véleménynyilvánítás korlátozására tett törekvések miatt.
A pereskedés azután kezdődött meg, hogy a kormányzat arra kötelezte a közösségi platformot, hogy távolítson el különböző bejegyzéseket és profilokat, amelyek megsértették az Indiában érvényben lévő, trágárságra és rágalmazásra vonatkozó törvényeket – számolt be róla a The Verge.
A két fél közötti csatározás tavaly májusban kezdődött meg, amikor India új informatikai szabályozást adott ki az online tartalmakra vonatkozóan, és ezt egy rendőrségi razzia is követte a Twitter indiai irodájában, miután az egyik kormánypárti politikus koronavírusról szóló tweetjét manipulált tartalom címkével látták el – írta a The Verge.
Tavaly júniusban az indiai törvényhozók azzal fenyegették meg Twittert, hogy a felhasználók szabálysértéseiért is a platformot fogják felelősségre vonni.
A közösségi platform már hosszú ideje azzal érvel, hogy ők megfelelnek a helyi véleménynyilvánítás vonatkozó jogszabályoknak, de az indiai trágárságra és lázító beszédre vonatkozó törvényei rendkívül szigorúak. Az országban a véleménynyilvánítási korlátozásokkal próbálják a környezeti problémákról és politikai kérdésekről való párbeszédet a háttérbe szorítani.
A Twitter jogi küzdelmét bonyolítja, hogy Elon Musk megpróbálta felvásárolni a vállalatot. Júniusban Musk ígéretet tett arra, hogy elkötelezetten szeretne kiállni a szólásszabadság mellet, de emellett helyi szabályozásoknak is megfelel majd az oldal működése. Az amerikai milliárdos továbbá létszámleépítéskere is utalt, és ez a cég indiai érdekvédelmét még jobban megnehezítheti.
Annak ellenére, hogy Musk aláírta a megállapodást a cég felvásárlásáról, még saját maga is bizonytalan abba, hogy a felvásárlás megvalósul-e, ami további kételyeket ébreszt a cég jövőbeli sorsát illetően.

A javarészt baloldali, feminista szervezetek szerint a Twitteren hirdető legnagyobb piaci cégeknek olyan feltételekhez kellene kötniük a megújult hirdetési szerződés aláírását, amelyek a többi közt kimondják, hogy a közösségi médiaplatformnak nem volna szabad visszaengednie az egyszer már letiltott felhasználókat – köztük akár Donald Trump volt amerikai elnököt – az oldalra. Szerintük ugyanis a szerződés aláírásával fennáll annak a veszélye, hogy a szóban forgó márkákat „a gyűlöletet, a szélsőségességet” és az „összeesküvés-elméleteket felerősítő platformmal” azonosítják majd.
Musk azt írta, hogy utánajárna, vajon „ki finanszírozza azokat a szervezeteket, amelyek korlátozni akarják az információhoz való hozzáférést”. Azonnali hatállyal lemondott posztjáról a Twitter vezérigazgatója, Jack Dorsey – jelentette be a vállalat. Helyét Parag Agrawal, a vállalat technológiai igazgatója veszi át, Dorsey ugyanakkor legalább jövő évig az igazgatóság tagja marad.
A Twitter társalapítója 2015 óta töltötte be a vezérigazgatói pozíciót, emellett pedig a Square nevű pénzügyi céget is ő irányítja. A BBC szerint a részvényesek 2020-ban már jelezték, szeretnének egy olyan embert látni a vállalat élén, aki csak a Twitterre fókuszál.
Jack Dorsey egyszer már kénytelen volt elhagyni a Twittert – 2008-ban, vagyis két évvel a cég alapítása után –, majd 2015-ben tért vissza, amikor az akkori Twitter-vezér, Dick Costolo távozott.
Dorsey távozását 2020-ban a Elliott Management befektetési cég követelte, ám a Twitter megállapodott vele, hogy 2 milliárd dollár értékben vásárol tőle vissza részvényeket.
Vasárnap Dorsey még azt írta ki a Twitter-csatornájára: „Imádom a Twittert.”
Dorsey közleményben jelentette be a távozását. Azt írta: „Úgy döntöttem, elhagyom a Twittert, mert úgy érzem, a cég készen áll arra, hogy az alapító után valaki más vezesse.”
Hangsúlyozta, hisz Paragban, a szakember elmúlt 10 évben végzett munkáját pedig jelentősnek tartja. „Itt az ideje, hogy ő vezesse a céget” – emelte ki Dorsey. A kollégáinak azt írta, a döntést nehezen, de ő hozta meg. A szakember mindenkinek megköszönte az eddigi munkát.
