2500 meztelen ember vett részt egy fotózáson Ausztrália tengerpartján, hogy így figyelmeztessenek a bőrrák veszélyeire.
A Reuters információi szerint körülbelül 2500 ember vetkőzött meztelenre szombaton a sydney-i Bondi Beachen, ahol egy amerikai fotóművész, Spencer Tunick készített róluk fotókat. A képeken hátulról láthatóak a jelentkezők, akik egy olyan projekt részesévé váltak, ami a bőrrákra igyekszik felhívni a figyelmet. Tunick már nem először csinált ilyet, mivel arról ismert, hogy a világ különböző nevezetességeinél készít hasonló fotósorozatokat, miközben megafon segítségével ad iránymutatást a résztvevőknek arról, éppen milyen pózban kell állniuk.
A fotóművész egy jótékonysági szervezettel együttműködve kezdte el a projektet egy nemes cél érdekében. A melanómára, vagyis a bőrrákra szeretnék felhívni a figyelmet, ami Ausztráliában például a rák negyedik leggyakoribb típusa. A becslések szerint csak idén 17 756 új bőrrákos esetet diagnosztizáltak az országban.
„Lehetőségünk van arra, hogy felhívjuk a figyelmet a bőrvizsgálatokra, és megtiszteltetés a számomra, hogy idejöhetek és megmutathatom a művészetemet, illetve dicsőíthetem az emberi testet és a védelmét” – fejtette ki Tunick, aki legutóbb 2010-ben csinált ilyen fotózást Sydney-ben, amelyen 5200 ausztrál pózolt meztelenül a sydney-i operaháznál.

Az eset sok részletben emlékeztet arra, amikor 2020 elején, a koronavírus-járvány kezdetén a Ruby Princess nevű hajón kilencszázan fertőződtek meg, és közülük 28-an meg is haltak.
Marguerite Fitzgerald, a hajót üzemeltető társaság elnöke arról nyilatkozott, hogy azóta sokat tanultak a vírusról, ezért sem ismétlődhet meg az akkori tragédia. Hozzátette, a fertőzöttek enyhe tünetekről számoltak be, és sokuknál semmilyen tünet nem alakult ki. Akiknél kimutatták a vírust, segíteni fogják, hogy a lehető leggyorsabban biztonságos helyre, karanténba kerülhessenek. Ausztráliában egyébként emelkedik a fertőzöttek száma.

A klímavédelmi csoport részéről azt közölték, tettükkel a környezetvédelemre akarták felhívni a figyelmet, egy hónappal a Victoria államban tartandó választások előtt, így sürgetnék a kormányok, nagyvállalatok és intézmények fokozottabb küzdelmét a környezeti katasztrófa ellen.
Az akcióról készült videofelvételeken látható, ahogy az aktivisták „Klímakáosz = háború és éhség”, valamint „Nem a szénre, nem a gázra, nem az olajra, nem a fakivágásra” feliratú táblákat is feltartanak.
A Mészárlás Koreában című képet Pablo Picasso 1951-ben festette, tiltakozásként az Egyesült Államok koreai beavatkozása ellen. A képen egy csoport katona meztelen nőkre és gyerekekre fog fegyvert.
„Gondolnunk kell arra, hogy a szenvedés milyen mértékben válik egyre gyakoribbá, s hogy a tudósok által is előre jelzett társadalmi összeomlás egyszer mindannyiunkat a tűzvonalba sodor” – fogalmazott Tony Gleeson, az őrizetbe vett, majd elengedett aktivisták egyike.
A szervezet szóvivője, Brad Homewood hangsúlyozta: tisztában voltak vele, hogy az akció nem tesz kárt a festményben, az aktivisták a képet borító plexiüvegre ragasztották a tenyerüket.
A festményt a párizsi Picasso Múzeum adta kölcsön a galériának.

Egy farmer fedezte fel azt a különös, mintegy háromméteres tárgyat, ami a földbe ékelődött Ausztrália délkeleti részén. Az űrből jött.
Az űrkutatáshoz használt eszközök nagyon ritkán, de visszatérhetnek a Föld légkörébe, sőt: olyan helyzetek is előfordulhatnak, hogy a tárgy nem ég el, darabokban, ám mégis becsapódik valahol. Ez a forgatókönyv játszódott le nemrég Új-Dél-Walesben is, ahol egy űrhajó méretes darabjára lett figyelmes egy birkatenyésztő.
Az ABCNews által idézett Brad Tucker, az Ausztrál Nemzeti Egyetem csillagásza szerint a földbe fúródott tárgy a SpaceX űrszemete. További nyomozás során pedig az is kiderült, hogy a mintegy 3 méter hosszú panel ahhoz az űrkabinhoz tartozott, amit a 2020-ban útnak indított Crew-1 nevű misszió vett igénybe.
A SpaceX igen ügyesen fejlesztett ki újrafelhasználható rakétákat, amik fontos jellemzője, hogy biztonságosan vissza tudnak térni egy erre a célra kifejlesztett leszállóhajóra. Más darabokat pedig szándékosan olyan pályára küldenek, hogy végül a Csendes- vagy az Atlanti-óceánba zuhanjanak – ezért is olyan szokatlan, hogy egy panel mégis a szilárd talajba csapódott.
Rebecca Allen, a Swinburne Műszaki Egyetem csillagásza szerint ez is azt mutatja, hogy a törmelékek nyomon követése kritikus fontosságú.
Ausztráliában eddig egyetlen nagyobb űrszemét ért földet: ez a NASA Skylab nevű űrállomásának egy darabja volt, ami 1979-ben csapódott be a nyugat-ausztráliai Esperance közelében.

Az ausztrál Victoria állambeli Mildura város lakói alaposan megdöbbentek, amikor kinéztek az ablakukon szerda este: a távolban egy hatalmas rózsaszín kör volt látható, ami egy nagyobb területen, a felhők alatt jelent meg.
A Guardian szerint a közösségi médiát rögtön ellepték az aggódó kommentek. Többen azt hitték, vége a világnak, de a jelenséget valójában egy sokkal hétköznapibb dolog okozta: egy telephely elfelejtette behúzni a sötétítőket.
A telephely, amiről szó van, a Cann Groupé, ahol orvosi marihuánát termesztenek. Ez egyébként az első olyan ausztrál cég, ami engedélyt kapott, hogy orvosi és kutatási célokból, legálisan termeszthesse a füvet.
Rhys Cohen, a cég kommunikációs munkatársa szerint a növényeknek különböző spektrumú fényre van szükségük a növekedésük elősegítéséhez. Ilyen például a vörös fény, amit a leggyakrabban használnak a növények nevelésénél. Cohen szerint a sötétítés éppen azért kell, hogy az ilyen jelenségeket kiküszöböljék.
A fent említett cég még július 7-én kapta meg az engedélyt az orvosi marihuána termesztésére. A lap azt írja, az, hogy a cég hol termeli a marihuánát, a vállalat tevékenységéből fakadóan érthető módon nem nyilvános. Legalábbis eddig nem volt az.

Három kilométerre az óceántól, a búzaföldjén talált egy bébifókát egy ausztrál gazda az Eyre-félszigeten. Ty Kayden a házához vezető úton bukkant rá az állatra, miután a szomszédja felhívta, hogy ritka vendége érkezett.
A férfi visszavitte a fókát az óceánhoz, és szabadon engedte, mivel a környéken nincs olyan állatmenhely, ahol gondoskodhattak volna róla. Az állat a Twitterre felkerült felvétel szerint először nem nagyon akart mozdulni, de aztán szelíd nógatással rávették, hogy bemenjen a sekély vízbe.
A The Guardian cikke szerint a búzaföldtől nagyjából 80 kilométerre van a legközelebbi fókakolónia az Ausztrália déli részén található Eyre-félszigeten.
Kayden elmondta, hogy családja több mint 60 éve gazdálkodik a környéken, de ilyen messze, a félsziget belsejében még sohasem találkoztak fókával. Arról is beszélt, fogalma sincs, hogy juthatott az állat ilyen távol a víztől. Soványnak látszott, de szerencséje, hogy a környéken vadászó rókák nem vették észre – tette hozzá.
Steve Reynolds, a tengeri élővilág szakértője szerint a búzaföldön talált állat egy új-zélandi medvefóka lehet.
Az RSPCA állatvédő szervezet szóvivője az eset nyomán arra hívta fel a figyelmet, hogy mindig érdemes felhívni a helyi állatorvost vagy vadvilággal foglalkozó szervezetet, ha valaki beteg vagy sérült állatot talál.

Ausztrália energiaügyi minisztere arra szólította fel az Új-Dél-Wales állam háztartásait – köztük Sydney-t is –, hogy az energiaválság miatt kapcsolják le otthonaikban a világítást.
Chris Bowen, Ausztrália egészségügyi minisztere közölte, hogy az embereknek – ha van rá lehetőségük – két órára le kéne kapcsolniuk a világítást minden este. Hozzátette, hogy egyébként biztos benne, hogy nem fogják áramkimaradások érni a lakosságot. Erre az intézkedésre azért van szükség, mert az energiaárak megemelkedése miatt Ausztrália fő nagykereskedelmi villamosenergia-piacát szüneteltetik – számolt be a BBC.
Ha megtehetik, akkor este 6 és 8 óra között ne indítsák be a háztartási elektromos gépeket és takarékoskodjanak az energiával, amennyire csak lehet – hangsúlyozta a miniszter egy Canberrában tartott televíziós médiakonferencián.
Az elmúlt hetekben Ausztrália is megérezte a szénellátás zavarainak, több széntüzelésű erőmű leállásának és a világpiaci energiaárak emelkedésének hatását.
Az év eleji áradások néhány új-dél-walesi és queenslandi szénbányát is érintett, illetve műszaki problémák miatt leállt a termelés két olyan bányában, amelyek a piac legnagyobb új-dél-walesi szénerőművét látják el.
Ausztrália széntüzelésű villamosenergia-termelő kapacitásának mintegy negyede nem üzemel jelenleg a váratlan leállások és tervezett karbantartások miatt.
Emellett egyes villamosenergia-termelők költségei a magasba szöktek, mivel a szén és a gáz világpiaci ára az Oroszország elleni szankciók miatt megugrott.

Huszonhét év után ismét Ausztráliából indít rakétákat az amerikai űrkutatási hivatal, a NASA – jelentette be szerdán Anthony Albanese ausztrál miniszterelnök.
Június 26. és július 12. között három rakétát lőnek majd fel az Északi Területen található Arnhem Űrközpontból. Ez lesz a NASA első olyan kilövése, amelyet kereskedelmi űrlétesítményből hajtanak végre az Egyesült Államokon kívül. Legutóbb 1995-ben, a dél-ausztráliai Woomerából indított rakétát Ausztráliából a NASA.

A 94 százalékos átoltottság miatt a halálesetek száma ötezer alatt maradt, ami töredéke annak, ami sok más fejlett országban történt lakosságarányosan.
