Az emailt maga a cég vezérigazgatója, Jack Dorsey küldte ki. Dorsey már korábban is azt szorgalmazta, hogy a Twitter munkaereje ne legyen centralizált, de a járvány miatt hamarabb meg kellett ezt lépniük.
Dorsey azt is kifejtette az emailben, hogy a cég irodái egészen biztosan nem fognak szeptember előtt kinyitni, és pár szükséges kivételtől eltekintve az üzleti utak is megszűnnek. A Twitter minden személyes rendezvényt törölt az év további részére, a dolgozók pedig fejenként egy plusz 1000 dolláros keretet kaptak arra, hogy az otthoni munkájukat finanszírozni tudják.
A Twitter volt az egyik legelső techcég még március elején, ami arra kérte az alkalmazottakat, hogy maradjanak otthon. De nem az egyetlen volt, a példáját követte a Microsoft, a Google és az Amazon is. A Twitter később fogja bejelenteni a terveit 2021-re.

Egy amerikai tinédzser unalmában létrehozott egy profilt, amely azt hirdette, hogy tulajdonosa kongresszusi mandátumért száll versenybe a 2020-as amerikai törvényhozási választásokon.
A Rhode Island-i Andrew Walz néven futó fiókot a Twitter ellátta azzal a kék színű pipával, amellyel azt jelölik, hogy a profil hiteles, valóban az az ember áll mögötte, akinek mondja magát. Ilyet kapnak a szenátusi, illetve képviselőházi helyekre pályázó politikusok profiljai is azzal a nyíltan vállalt céllal, hogy így segítse az embereket megbízható forrásból tájékozódni a választások előtt.
A CNN hírtelevízió elérte azt a 17 éves New York-i fiút, aki a hamis fiókot létrehozta. A középiskolás diák elmondta: az álprofillal tesztelni akarta, hogy a Twitter mennyire megbízhatóan és hitelesen működik a választással kapcsolatos hírek kezelésében.
A fiú elmondása szerint a karácsonyi szünetben unatkozott, és nagyjából 20 perc alatt létrehozta az áljelölt weboldalát, és további öt perc alatt pedig nyitott egy hamis Twitter-fiókot a nevében. Az általa kitalált jelölt fényképét egy olyan oldalról töltötte le, amely mesterséges intelligenciával hoz létre valódinak tűnő képeket nem létező személyekről.
A kék színű pipa a Twitter védjegye, és később a Facebook is elkezdte alkalmazni. Ismert újságírók, politikusok, kormányzati ügynökségek és vállalatok oldalaira helyezik el, azzal a céllal, hogy jelezzék az adott profilok hitelességét. Erősen megkérdőjelezi azonban a Twitter felkészültségét, hogy a hitelesítő jelzést egy 17 éves fiatal által, jelentősebb ráfordítás nélkül létrehozott oldal is könnyedén megkapta – mutatott rá a CNN.
A Twitter egy szóvivője nemrég úgy nyilatkozott: a legrosszabb, ami a vállalattal történhet, ha olyan személyt hitelesítene, aki valójában nem is jelölt. Andrew Walz fiókját azóta törölték.

William Barr amerikai igazságügyi miniszter csütörtök este egy
tévéinterjúban azt javasolta Donald Trump elnöknek, hogy álljon le a
Twitter-bejegyzésekkel – írja az origo.hu.
Az ABC televízió esti híradójának nyilatkozva
Barr hangsúlyozta, hogy Donald Trump egyáltalán meg sem kísérelte a
beavatkozást a korábbi tanácsadója, Roger Stone ellen folyó perbe, és nem
próbálta meg befolyásolni az igazságügyi minisztériumot sem az ügyészek által a
perben javasolt büntetés enyhítésében.
„Örülök neki, hogy az elnök soha nem kért tőlem közbenjárást egyetlen büntetőperben
sem” – hangsúlyozta a tárcavezető. De – tette hozzá – az elnök gyakori
megnyilvánulásai a közösségi médiában „ellehetetlenítik” a minisztériumi
munkáját.
Barr úgy fogalmazott: „azt hiszem, itt az ideje, hogy (az elnök) abbahagyja
a Twitterezést az igazságügyi minisztérium büntetőpereiről”. Hozzáfűzte, hogy
őt „senki sem tudja megfélemlíteni vagy befolyásolni, lett légyen szó a
kongresszusról, egy szerkesztőség vezetőiről vagy az elnökről”. „Azt fogom
tenni, amit helyesnek tartok” – fogalmazott Barr, leszögezve, hogy képtelen úgy
dolgozni a minisztériumban, hogy „a háttérben állandó kommentárokkal aláásnak”.
Kiemelte azt is, hogy nem tudja biztosítani „a bíróságok, az ügyészek és az
egész minisztérium feddhetetlen munkáját”, ha a végrehajtó hatalom azt a
látszatot kelti, mintha részt venne az igazságügyi minisztérium
döntéshozatalában.
Lindsey Graham dél-karolinai republikánus szenátor az interjú elhangzása
után a Twitteren azonnal egyetértéséről biztosította Barrt, Mitch McConnell, a
szenátus republikánus frakciójának vezetője pedig a Fox televíziónak
nyilatkozva úgy fogalmazott: „az elnöknek meg kellene fogadnia a (miniszter)
tanácsait”.
A Fehér Ház szóvivője, Stephanie Grisham azt hangoztatta: az elnököt „egyáltalán
nem zavarja” William Barr véleménye. A szóvivőnő ugyanakkor hangsúlyozta:
Donald Trump „nagyon hatékonyan használja a közösségi médiát az amerikai népért
folytatott küzdelme, az országot ért igazságtalanságok, köztük a hamis hírek
elleni harca érdekében”. Barr interjújának előzménye az, hogy hétfőn
nyilvánosságra került a Roger Stone elleni perben az ügyészek által javasolt
büntetés. A szövetségi ügyészek 7-től 9 évig terjedő börtönbüntetést kértek a
67 éves Stone-ra. Az elnöki tanácsadót tavaly novemberben mondták ki bűnösnek
hét rendbeli bűncselekményben, köztük a hatóság félrevezetése, a kongresszus
munkájának akadályozása és tanúk megfélemlítése miatt. Valamennyi vádpont a
Trump 2016-os választási kampánycsapata és Moszkva közötti esetleges
összejátszást vizsgáló, Robert Mueller vezette bizottság nyomozásai során
fogalmazódott meg.
Trump még hétfőn éjjel a Twitteren „szörnyű és nagyon igazságtalan
helyzetnek” és „az igazságszolgáltatás tévedésének” minősítette az ügyészi
kérést, bár a következő napon azt mondta, hogy ez csupán a személyes véleménye
volt, nem akart beavatkozni az igazságszolgáltatás munkájába. Kedden aztán a
per mind a négy ügyésze visszaadta a megbízását. Hárman közülük azon
sajtóhírekre hivatkoztak, miszerint a minisztérium „szélsőségesnek, túlzónak és
aránytalannak tartja a javasolt büntetést”.
A tárca az ügyészi javaslattal kapcsolatos véleményét nem cáfolta, de
közleményében kiemelte: az enyhébb büntetésről kialakított álláspontját még
Trump Twitter-bejegyzése előtt fogalmazta meg, és nem konzultált a Fehér
Házzal.
Az ABC televíziónak adott interjújában Barr elmondta: hétfőn este, amikor meglátta az ügyészi javaslatot – még Trump Twitter-bejegyzése előtt – teljesen megdöbbent, részben azért, mert „nem tűnt tisztességesnek és észszerűnek” a javaslat, részben pedig azért, mert távol állt az ügyészeknek a minisztérium illetékeseivel folytatott korábbi megbeszélései tartalmától. „Azon az éjszakán azt mondtam a munkatársaimnak: álljunk készenlétben, mert reggel tennünk kell valamit ennek a módosítására és egyértelművé kell tennünk az álláspontunkat is” – fejtette ki a miniszter.

Négymillió rubeles (nagyjából 60 ezer dolláros, vagyis 18,7 millió forintos) pénzbüntetést szabott ki a Facebookra és a Twitterre egy bíróság csütörtökön Oroszországban, amiért a két közösségi oldal nem az országban tárolta a helyi felhasználók személyes adatbázisát – írja az MTI.
A személyi adatok védelméről rendelkező, 2015. szeptember 1-jén életbe lépett jogszabály arra kötelezi mind az orosz, mind a külföldi vállalatokat, hogy az oroszok adatait Oroszországban működő szervereken tárolják. A moszkvai tömegtájékoztatási és távközlési hatóság (Roszkomnadzor) tavaly eljárást indított a Twitter és a Facebook ellen, amiért nem tettek eleget ennek a rendelkezésnek. Hasonló okból négy évvel ezelőtt az országban letiltották a LinkedIn elérését.

A mostani a legnagyobb összegű pénzbírság, amelyet a jogszabály alapján eddig kiszabtak nyugati technológiai cégekre. A Roszkomnadzor azt közölte, hogy 18 millió rubeles (mintegy 283 ezer dolláros) büntetés vár a Facebookra és a Twitterre, amennyiben az év végéig sem teljesítik az előírásokat.

Egyben felajánlották, ha a megtámadottkét cég, a Twitter és az Instagram jobb netes biztonságot akar, akkor keressék fel az OurMine oldalait.
Az OurMine nem tekinthető rosszindulatúnak, a csoport célja az, hogy felhívja a cégek figyelmét a kíberbiztonság fontosságára. Az OurMine januárban az amerikai labdarúgóbajnokságban játszó csapatok oldalait törte fel.
Az OurMine központja Dubaiban van, s a BBC szerint már a múltban is végrehajtottak néhány látványos „betörést”: rövid időre elfoglalta a Twitter-alapító Jack Dorsey, illetve a Google élén álló Sundar Pichai Twitter-oldalát is. A Twitter is elismerte, hogy rövid ideig feltörték a mikroblog egyik oldalát.
