India a világ legnépesebb országa, írja a Bloomberg. Az ENSZ szerdán közzétett adatai szerint India már megelőzte Kínát: népessége meghaladta az 1,4286 milliárd főt, ami kicsivel ugyan, de több, mint Kína lakossága (1,4257 milliárd fő).
Kínához ugyanakkor nem számolják hozzá Hongkongot és Makaót, Kína különleges közigazgatási területeit, és Tajvant sem. Az indiai népességnövekedése miatt Narendra Modi miniszterelnök kormánya számára még sürgetőbbé válik, hogy munkahelyeket teremtsen a munkaerőpiacra belépő több millió embernek. India, ahol a lakosság fele 30 év alatti, a következő években a világ leggyorsabban növekvő nagy gazdasága lesz, írja a Bloomberg.
Ázsia harmadik legnagyobb gazdaságában ma már az emberiség közel egyötöde él. India népessége az előrejelzések szerint 2050-re eléri az 1,668 milliárd főt, miközben Kína népessége az előrejelzések szerint 1,317 milliárd főre csökken. Indiában 2022-ben 23 millió gyermek született, míg Kína népessége hat évtized óta először kezdett el zsugorodni: 2022-ben kb. 9,56 millió újszülöttel kevesebb született az országban.
A világ népessége 1950 óta a leglassabb ütemben növekszik, és az ENSZ korábbi előrejelzései szerint a 2022-es 8 milliárdról 2030-ra mintegy 8,5 milliárdra nőhet, 2050-re pedig elérheti a 9,7 milliárdot, majd a 2080-as években 10,4 milliárd körül tetőzik, és 2100-ig ott is marad.
