Kínai paleontológusok a kelet-kínai Santung tartomány Csucseng városában egy kövületben új dinoszauruszfajt azonosítottak – tette közzé a helyi hatóság.
Fotó: Pexels Az ankiloszauruszok, vagyis összeforrt gyíkok nemébe tartozó fajt egy jobb oldali csípőcsont kövületének kiásásakor fedezték fel, és Sinankylosaurus zhuchengensisnek nevezték el a lelőhely tiszteletére.
Az új faj felfedezése tovább gazdagítja a csucsengi dinoszauruszfaunát, valamint gyarapítja az ősgyíkok életéről szerzett tudást – mondta Csang Jen-hszia, a csucsengi dinoszauruszkutató központ munkatársa.
A felfedezést a Geological Bulletin of China című szaklap közölte. Csucsengben található a világon az egyik leggazdagabb dinoszauruszcsont-lelőhely, amely 1600 kilométeren terül el. Kínai tudósok 1964-ben találták itt az első dinoszauruszkövületet, azóta több mint tíz fajt ástak ki.

Az Angliától délre fekvő Wight-szigeten a theropodák egy új faját fedezték fel, mely faj a T.rex unokatestvére – jelentették be a Southamptoni Egyetem kutatói kedden.
A kutatók a Vectaerovenator inopinatus nevet adták a fajnak, amely 115 millió éve a kréta időszakban élt, és becslések szerint mintegy négy méter hosszú lehetett.
A Vectaerovenator négy csontját tavaly találták meg egy tengerparti üdülőhely strandján fosszíliavadászok. Neve azokra a légzsákokra utal, amelyeket csontjaiban találtak. Ezek a légzsákok, amelyek megtalálhatók a mai madarakban is, a tüdő kiterjesztései, amelyek segítették az állat légzőszervrendszerét hatékonyan működni, miközben könnyebbé tették csontozatukat.
Robin Ward, a csontokat megtalálók egyik elmondta, rögtön arra gondolt, hogy valami különlegeset találtak, és magukkal vitték a fosszíliákat a szigeten lévő dinoszaurusz múzeumba. Az ottani szakemberek is azonnal tudták, hogy valami ritkaságról van szó, és kérték, adományozzuk a múzeumnak, hogy alapos vizsgálatnak vethessék alá.
„Meghökkentünk, amikor láttuk, milyen üregesek az állat csontjai. Csontvázának részei igen törékenyek lehettek” – hangsúlyozta Chris Barker, a dinoszauruszfajról készített tanulmány vezetője.
A paleontológusok úgy vélik, valószínű, hogy a Vectaerovenator északra élt attól a helytől, ahol csontjait megtalálták, tetemét a közeli sekély tengerbe mosta a víz.
