A magas patogenitású madárinfluenza-vírus H5N1 altípusát mutatták ki a magyar Nemzeti Élelmiszerlánc-biztonsági Hivatal (Nébih) szakemberei abban az elhullott házi macskában, amely Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok vármegyéből diagnosztikai vizsgálatra érkezett a hivatal laboratóriumába.
A fertőzött macskával együtt tartott állatok jelenleg tünetmentesek, vizsgálatuk folyamatban van. A járványügyi nyomozás ugyancsak zajlik, azonban valószínűsíthető, hogy a fertőződés vadmadárral való közvetlen vagy közvetett érintkezés útján történt.
Az emlősállatokban megállapított magas patogenitású madárinfluenza nem von maga után olyan szigorú járványügyi intézkedéseket, mint a baromfik esetében igazolt fertőzés. Az állattartó többi macskáját az állategészségügyi hatóság megvizsgálja és megfigyeli, egyéb intézkedésekre, például korlátozás alatt álló terület létrehozására vagy az állatok elaltatására nem kerül sor.
Magyarországon más emlősállatból nem mutatták ki a betegséget. A kórokozót emlősállatoknál Európa-szerte csak elszórtan azonosították, nagy kiterjedésű megbetegedés kizárólag baromfifajokban jellemző.
Annak az esélye, hogy a vírus embert fertőzzön, az Európai Élelmiszer-biztonsági Hatóság (EFSA) kockázatbecslése alapján továbbra is elhanyagolható.
A héten egy újabb michigani mezőgazdasági munkást fertőzött meg a madárinfluenza, ő volt a harmadik személy az Egyesült Államokban, aki elkapta a vírust, amely szarvasmarhák körében járványkitörést váltott ki. A Bloomberg beszámolója szerint, a mezőgazdasági dolgozó valószínűleg egy fertőzött tehénnel való érintkezés útján kapta el a vírust – közölte e-mailben az Egyesült Államok Betegség-ellenőrzési és Megelőzési Központja (CDC). Arról is beszámoltak, hogy az emberekre vonatkozó kockázat továbbra is alacsony.

Most Nagy-Britanniában találtak kilenc vidrát és rókát, amelyek szervezetéből kimutatták a kórokozót. Az esetek a szigetországban elszórtan, Walesben, Angliában és Skóciában fordultak elő.
Korábban az Egyesült Államokban grizzly medvékben, Spanyolországban nyércekben mutatták ki a vírust, amely előfordult már fókákban és delfinekben is. A Kaszpi-tengerről a napokban jelentettek tömeges fókapusztulást, aminek hátterében ugyancsak a H5N1-vírust sejtik. A spanyolországi eset ráadásul azért keltett különösen nagy figyelmet, mert az északnyugat-spanyolországi Carralban található nyércfarmon a vírus emlősök közti terjedését is valószínűsítették.
A hónapok óta tomboló eddig nagyjából 208 millió szárnyas pusztulását okozó madárinfluenzajárvány Ian Brown, az ENSZ fő madárinfluenza-szakértője szerint „a legnagyobb, amit valaha tapasztaltunk”, és vannak szakértők akik attól tartanak, hogy a lassan a fajok között rutinszerűen ugráló vírusnak előbb-utóbb kialakul egy olyan változata, amely embereket is képes lesz megfertőzni, igaz, a brit vizsgálatot végző szakértők még mindig úgy vélik, hogy ennek rendkívül csekély a valószínűsége. Nagy-Britanniában ennek ellenére gyakrabban végeznek majd teszteket a vírusnak potenciálisan kitett állatok és emberek körében.
