Nagy-Britannia további 1000 katonát és a két legújabb repülőgép-hordozójának egyikét küldi a NATO keleti szárnyának védelmére, jelentette be Ben Wallace, Nagy-Britannia védelmi minisztere a NATO-csúcson – közölte a The Guardian.
Ezeket az erőket Észtország védelmére alkalmazzák, ahol Nagy-Britanniának már körülbelül 1700 katonája teljesít szolgálatot. A brit kontingens székhelye Albion lesz, de szükség esetén készen áll a balti országok védelmére.
Nagy-Britannia újabb kötelezettségvállalásait a NATO gyors reagálási erői több mint 300 000 katonával való növelése részeként vállalja. Ezeket az erőket fokozott készültségbe helyezik arra az esetre, ha Oroszország katonai támadással fenyegetné a szövetség bármely tagját.
