Nem használhatják péntektől személyi igazolványukat a beutazáshoz a brit határállomásokon azok az EU-állampolgárok, akik nem élnek Nagy-Britanniában. A Nagy-Britanniában törvényesen letelepedett uniós polgárok ugyanakkor még legalább négy évig személyi igazolvánnyal is beutazhatnak.
Nagy-Britannia tavaly január 31-én kilépett az Európai Unióból, de azok az EU-polgárok, akik 2020 végéig, a brit EU-tagság megszűnése (Brexit) után kezdődött 11 hónapos átmeneti időszak lejártáig törvényesen és életvitelszerűen letelepedtek az országban, továbbra is maradhatnak megszerzett összes jogosultságuk megtartásával. Ehhez azonban meghatározatlan időre szóló tartózkodási engedélyért – hivatalos jogi elnevezéssel letelepedett státusért – kell folyamodniuk.
A brit belügyminisztérium még májusban közzétett, a határidő pénteki lejárta előtt megerősített szabálymódosítása szerint akiknek már megvan ez a státusuk, vagy beterjesztették folyamodványukat, de még várnak az elbírálásra, legalább 2025. december 31-ig beutazhatnak Nagy-Britanniába az állampolgárságuk szerinti országban kiállított személyazonosító okmányokkal.
A tárca legfrissebb összesítése szerint a 27 EU-tagország Nagy-Britanniában élő állampolgárai közül augusztus 31-ig 6 159 800-an adtak be letelepedési kérelmet, és a folyamodványok közül addig 5 709 200-at bíráltak el.
A brit belügyminisztérium a múlt hónap végéig elbírált folyamodványok mindössze 3 százalékát utasította el.
Az egyes országokra lebontott adatsor szerint – amely egyelőre a június 30-i állapotot mutatja – a lengyelek és a románok állnak a lista élén 1 107 060, illetve 1 082 260 letelepedési folyamodvánnyal.
A belügyi tárca statisztikája szerint június 30-ig 155 490 magyar állampolgár folyamodott tartós nagy-britanniai letelepedési engedélyért.
Azok az EU-állampolgárok, akik nem tartózkodnak életvitelszerűen Nagy-Britanniában, és így nem szerezhetik meg a letelepedett státust, csütörtökig használhatták a hazájukban kiállított személyi igazolványt a nagy-britanniai beutazáshoz.
Priti Patel brit belügyminiszter május végén jelentette be, hogy a belépéshez felhasználható személyi okmányok szabályozása a nem Nagy-Britanniában élő EU-állampolgárok esetében idén október 1-jén módosul.
Patel úgy fogalmazott a májusban ismertetett intézkedés indoklásában, hogy a nyitott határok koncepciója elhibázott koncepció, és egyszerűen nem megvalósítható, hogy mindenki, aki Nagy-Britanniában akar letelepedni, ezt meg is tehesse. Ez ugyanis éppen azokkal szemben lenne igazságtalan, akik kínzás és üldöztetés elől menekülve biztonságos és törvényes úton szeretnének eljutni Nagy-Britanniába.
Nagy-Britannia büszke arra a régre visszanyúló hagyományra, hogy otthont nyújtott az üldöztetés és az elnyomás elől menekülőknek, köztük a zsidóknak a hitleri rezsim idején, vagy a magyaroknak, akik az 1950-es években a szovjet fenyegetés elől menekülve érkeztek – mondta a brit belügyminiszter.
Priti Patel hangsúlyozta: a brit kormány nagyon nagyra értékeli a Nagy-Britanniában élő EU-polgárok hozzájárulását az ország életéhez, és azt szeretné, ha maradnának.
A személyi igazolvány használatának pénteki megszüntetését megerősítő belügyminisztériumi tájékoztatás hangsúlyozza, hogy a beutazó EU-állampolgárok továbbra is használhatják az automata ePassport beléptető kapukat a brit határállomásokon.
