Az eyeWitness to Atrocities nevű appot jogászok fejlesztették ki, hogy a begyűjtött felvételeket adott esetben bizonyítékként használhassák.
Már 2015 óta létezik az az alkalmazás, amit most az Ukrajnában zajló háború alatt is felhasználnak: a segítségével olyan képi anyagokat gyűjtenek össze, amik a szakértők szerint bizonyítékként is felhasználhatók lehetnek. Például azért, hogy orosz politikai vagy katonai vezetőket vonjanak felelősségre.
A Guardian szerint az app – az eyeWitness to Atrocities – mindeddig 13 ezer különböző felvételt gyűjtött össze. Ezek dátumát és tartalmát nem lehet módosítani vagy manipulálni, ami növeli annak az esélyét, hogy a rögzített tartalmat jogászok is használhassák egy ügy hivatalos megindításakor. (Mivel a Nemzetközi Büntetőbíróság (ICC) az Ukrajnában elkövetett esetleges háborús vagy emberiesség elleni bűncselekmények ügyében folytat vizsgálatot, az ilyen képi anyagok kulcsfontosságúak lehetnek.)
Az eyeWitness eddig 28 dossziét, köztük Ukrajnával, Palesztinával és Nigériával kapcsolatos anyagokat nyújtott be a különböző hatóságokhoz.
Az eyeWitness segítségével gyűjtött felvételeket néhány éve egy, a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban 2012-ben elkövetett mészárlással kapcsolatos ítélethozatalhoz is felhasználták.
