A Fehér Ház megkérdezte ukrán tisztviselőktől, hogy Volodimir Zelenszkij elnök fog-e öltönyt viselni a Donald Trump amerikai elnökkel való hétfői találkozóján az Ovális Irodában számolt be az rbc.ua hírportál az Axios című amerikai kiadványra hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint az Axios beszámolt róla, hogy Zelenszkij ezúttal abban a fekete kabátban érkezik, amelyet a júniusi hollandiai NATO-csúcstalálkozón viselt. Nem fog nyakkendőt viselni. Amerikai tisztviselők dicsérték a választást, megjegyezve, hogy „üzletiesebb és semlegesebb” megjelenést kölcsönöz a tárgyalásoknak.
Trump tanácsadói viccelődve azt állítják, hogy az öltöny és nyakkendő „jó jel lenne a békére”, de Zelenszkijtől ezt nem várják. Az előző találkozó diplomáciai szóváltásba torkollott. Trumpnak nem tetszett Zelenszkij katonai egyenruhája, és szarkasztikusan kritizálta a külsejét.
Az amerikai tisztviselők megjegyezték, hogy az egyenruha részben hozzájárult a beszélgetés „sikertelen” kimeneteléhez. Legutóbb nem is annyira a ruházat okozott nagyobb irritációt az amerikai tisztviselők körében, hanem az ukrán vezető „viselkedése” a háborús dokumentumfotók bemutatása során.

Súlyos kérdéseket vet fel a Fehér Ház biztonsági protokollja, miután egy orosz állami hírügynökség munkatársa engedély nélkül bejutott Donald Trump amerikai elnök és Volodimir Zelenszkij ukrán elnök pénteki találkozójára – írja a Mandiner.
A CNN híre szerint a TASZSZ orosz állami média egyik tudósítója jelen volt az Ovális Irodában, miközben más hírügynökségek, mint az Associated Press és a Reuters nem kapott engedélyt a részvételre.
A Fehér Ház tagadta, hogy a TASZSZ újságírója hivatalos engedélyt kapott volna, és hangsúlyozták, hogy az orosz hírügynökség nem szerepelt a jóváhagyott sajtólistán. Amint a sajtóiroda munkatársai észrevették, hogy az Ovális Irodában tartózkodik, a sajtótitkár kivezette – közölte egy fehér házi tisztviselő.

Megerősítette szerdán a washingtoni Fehér Ház egy tisztségviselője, hogy értesüléseik szerint október elején észak-koreai katonák érkeztek Oroszország keleti részébe.
John Kirby, a Fehér Ház nemzetbiztonsági kommunikációs tanácsadója sajtótájékoztatóján elmondta, hogy Phenjan legkevesebb 3 ezer katonát küldhetett Oroszországba az október eleje és közepe közötti időszakban, de Washington azt egyelőre nem tudja, hogy milyen küldetéssel.

Donal Trump először 2017 júliusában jelentette be a Twitteren a transznemű katonák szolgálatának tiltásáról szóló irányelvet, de már akkor ízekre szedték az LMBTQ-aktivisták mint szörnyű és irracionális doktrínát. A tilalom – egy-két kivételtől eltekintve – főként azokra vonatkozott, akiket nemváltásuk miatti diszfóriával – hangulatzavarral – diagnosztizáltak. Azokat a transzneműeket, akiket lélektanilag nem viselt meg a nemváltás, nem érintette a tilalom, feltéve ha a születési nemüknek megfelelően viselkedtek.
A Fehér Ház korábban nem kommentálta részleteiben a CNN amerikai hírcsatorna értesülését, a sajtótitkár csak annyit mondott, hogy a tilalom feloldása Biden egyik első elnöki intézkedése lesz.
Trump a tilalom kihirdetésekor azzal érvelt, hogy a transznemű katonák szétzilálják a csapatszellemet és jelentős orvosi költséggel járnak.
Ugyanakkor már egy, a védelmi minisztérium megbízásából végzett 2016-os tanulmány kimutatta, hogy a transznemű katonák szolgálatba állítása csak minimális következményekkel jár a készültségre és az egészségügyi költségekre vonatkozóan. A tanulmány a hadsereg szolgálatában álló transzneműek számát 1300 és 6600 közé tette. Továbbá megállapította, hogy a nemváltás miatt az általános népesség körében ritka a sebészeti beavatkozás. A hadsereg aktív állományában becslések szerint évente 30–140 új hormonkezelésre lenne szükség, s 25–130 tényleges sebészeti beavatkozásra.
Mindezek költsége évi 2,4–8,4 millió dollárt tenne ki, ami csupán kis hányada a teljes egészségügyi ellátásra költhető összegnek.
Trump 2017-es rendelete annak a védelmi minisztériumi irányelvnek mondott megálljt, amelyet a szaktárca még Barack Obama elnöksége alatt dolgozott ki, s amelynek értelmében a transzneműek nyíltan vállalhatták volna irányultságukat a hadseregben. A CNN nem mulasztja el megjegyezni, hogy a Trump-kormányzat ott gáncsolta az LMBTQ-közösség védelmét, ahol csak tudta, s az elnöknek különösen a transzneműek voltak a begyében. A legtöbb bírálatot az váltotta ki, amikor tavaly vissza akarta vonni Obama rendeletét a transzneműek egyenlő egészségügyi kezeléséről. Egy szövetségi bíró azonban ez megakadályozta, mondván, hogy az ellenkezik a legfelsőbb bíróság az idő tájt kihirdetett döntésével.
