Lemondásra kényszerült szombaton Stan Wischnowski, a Philadelphia Inquirer című amerikai lap főszerkesztője egy főcím miatt. Csak azért, mert megírták az igazságot, azt, hogy az erőszakos tüntetők gyújtogatnak és rombolnak az egész országban.
Stan Wischnowski „Az épületek is számítanak” címet adta egy építészeti kritikának, amelynek a szerzője a többi között arról írt, hogy a tüntetők üzleteket gyújtottak fel és épületeket rongáltak meg, közöttük műemléképületeket is.
A főcím hasonló, mint a tüntetésekben élen járó „A fekete életek számítanak” nevű mozgalom neve. Ez nem tetszett néhány embernek, ezért kellett lemondania a Pulitzer-díjas, 58 éves Wischnowskinak, aki egyben a lapkiadó alelnöke is. Így le kellett mondania arról a posztjáról is.
A philadelphiai lap bocsánatkérése a The New York Times bocsánatkérése után jelent meg, ami szerdán közölte Tom Cotton arkansasi republikánus szenátor véleménycikkét, ahol a politikus arról írt, hogy helyesnek tartja az erőszakkal szembeni rendőri fellépést.
A nemzetnek helyre kell állítania a rendet – fogalmazott, hozzátéve, hogy a hadsereg erre készen áll. A lap a cikk megjelenése után össztűz alá került, s szintén bocsánatot kért.
Korábban Donald Trump amerikai elnök beszélt arról, hogy a radikális baloldal tüzelte fel a tüntetőket, akik gátlástalanul gyújtogatnak és fosztogatnak. Legutóbb pedig William Barr amerikai igazságügyi miniszter mondta azt, hogy szélsőséges agitátorok próbálják megosztani az amerikai társadalmat.
A miniszter a magát antifasisztának nevező Antifa mozgalomhoz kapcsolódó szélsőségesekről beszélt. Bizonyítékaink vannak rá, hogy az Antifa és más szélsőséges csoportok, valamint különböző politikai irányvonalat magukénak valló politikai szereplők szítják az erőszakos cselekményeket, s részt is vesznek ezekben jelentette ki William Barr, aki szerint „külföldi szereplők” is részt vesznek az erőszak szélesítésében. Mint mondta: a kormányzatnak erőszakot szító szervezetekkel kell megbirkóznia.
Christopher Wray, a Szövetségi Nyomozó Iroda (FBI) igazgatója azt hangsúlyozta, hogy a békés tüntetések a demokrácia erejének bizonyítékai, de az erőszak nem a demokrácia része, nem engedhető meg.
