Nem ismerik a francia nyelvet, nem tettek le állampolgársági vizsgát, s az ilyenkor szükséges rendkívüli eljárást sem kezdeményezték az illetékes hatóságok: egyelőre rejtély, hogy szerezhetett azonnali hatállyal állampolgárságot George Clooney, felesége és két gyermekük.

A világsajtót ugyanis bombaként járta be a hír december 31-én: George Clooney, az ismert amerikai filmszínész számára francia állampolgárságot „kért” Jean-Noël Barrot francia külügyminiszter – s ami e banánállamokra emlékeztető gesztusnál még meglepőbb, Clooney és egész családja az év utolsó napján meg is kapta a „honosítást”.

Csodálatos, hogy újra fel tudja vállalni az identitásának azt a részét, ami az EU-hoz köti – nyilatkozta Stanley Johnson, miután francia állampolgár lett.
Másfél évvel az után, hogy először beszélt erről az ötletéről, megkapta a francia állampolgárságot Stanley Johnson, a brit miniszterelnök, Boris Johnson apja. Mindenképp EU-polgár akart ugyanis maradni – adta hírül a BFMTV.
Az idősebb Johnson, aki annak idején Nagy-Britannia EU-tagságára szavazott a népszavazáson, holott fia a Brexit mellett kampányolt, most azt mondta: csodálatos, hogy felvállalhatja az identitásának ezt a részét.
Az állampolgárságot azért is kaphatta meg a szokásosnál könnyebben, mert az anyja francia volt. Ő maga 1979 és 1984 között képviselő volt az Európai Parlamentben, viccelődött is azon, hogy 2024-ben elindulna a franciaországi EP-választáson, de azért gyorsan megnyugtatott mindenkit, hogy két év múlva, 84 évesen lesz ennél jobb dolga is.
Azt is elmondta, hogy a fiától egyszavas, de francia reakciót kapott az új állampolgárságára: „magnifique”.
