Az Európai Űrügynökség (ESA) felmondja az együttműködést Oroszországgal Európa első bolygójárójának felbocsátását célzó küldetésben, amelyet életjelek felkutatására terveztek a Marson, közölte a CNN.
Az ExoMars bolygójáró, az ESA és a Roszkozmosz orosz űrkutatási ügynökség közös projektjeként indult, a tervek szerint idén szeptemberben kellene elindulnia a Marsra. Az ESA azonban februárban azt mondta, hogy Oroszország Ukrajna elleni inváziója ezt „nagyon valószínűtlenné” tette.
Az ESA hivatalos, július 12-én közzétett állásfoglalása megerősíti a korábbi nyilatkozatokat: az ukrajnai események, valamint az Oroszországra kiszabott szankciók ellehetetlenítik a további együttműködést.
Az ExoMars projekt keretében kifejlesztett bolygójáró célja a marsi élet kutatása, valamint víz keresése. A jármű képes megközelítőleg két méterrel a marsi felszín alá fúrni.
