Az egyik legtekintélyesebb nemzetközi kitüntetést, a Nagy Károly-díjat adományozták Volodimir Zelenszkij elnöknek az Európa egyesítése érdekében kifejtett hatalmas erőfeszítéseinek elismeréseként – adta hírül az rbc.ua hírportál szombaton a Bild című német lapra hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint a kitüntetést egy Ukrajnából elmenekült nő vette át az ukrán elnök nevében. De amint a helyzet lehetővé teszi, a díjat Kijevbe szállítják.
A Nagy Károly-díjat (Karlspreis) 1950 óta évente ítéli oda Aachen város önkormányzata azoknak a személyiségeknek, akik hozzájárulnak az európai egységhez vagy az európai országok közötti együttműködéshez. A 60-as 70-es években azonban tízszer nem adták ki a díjat, a szervezők szerint ugyanis nem volt arra érdemes jelölt.
A kitüntetés első díjazottjai a következők voltak: Winston Churchill brit miniszterelnök, Konrad Adenauer, Németország első kancellárja. De többek között megkapta még Angela Merkel volt német kancellár és Emmanuel Macron, Franciaország hivatalban lévő elnöke, előtte pedig Antonio Guterres, az ENSZ főtitkára.

Today is World Cancer Day. I visited Ukraine’s National Cancer Institute to support our young patients, their parents, and everyone fighting this terrible disease. They are all very strong, with a strong belief in our defenders and Ukraine.
