Pierre Carter 7960 méterről, a 4-es tábor magasságából szállt fel, és húsz percen át siklott alá ernyőjével a világ legmagasabb hegyéről. Egy, az alaptábortól hat kilométerre fekvő faluban ért földet.
A látvány lenyűgöző volt, a feljutás a csaknem nyolcezer méteres magasba azonban nagyon próbára tette a dél-afrikai extrém sportolót. Bár engedélye nyolcezer méterre szólt, az utolsó negyven métert már nem volt ereje megtenni, ráadásul sokáig kellett várnia a megfelelő szélerősségre és látótávolságra.
Carter eredetileg a 8849 méteres csúcsról akart alászállni, de arra nem kapott engedélyt. Ha később mégis megkapná, és szponzort is sikerül találnia, újra felszáll, immár a világ tetejéről − mondta.
A nepáli túraszervezők egyre nagyobb potenciált látnak a hasonló élményturizmusban a Mount Everesten.
Vasárnap lesz az Everest első megmászásának 69. évfordulója.
