Minden idők legerősebb rakétarendszerét, a Starshipet tesztelte Elon Musk űrvállalata, a SpaceX helyi idő szerint csütörtökön.
A jármű alsó szegmensében elhelyezkedő 33 hajtómű közül 31 indult be egyszerre, mindössze pár másodpercen át tartott az össztűz, melyet a mérnökök statikus tűznek neveztek. Előtte a helyükre kattantak azok az eszközök, melyek biztosították, hogy a rakéta ne induljon el – számolt be róla a BBC hírportálja.

Első repülésekor a Starship lesz a valaha volt legnagyobb erejű rakétarendszer. Ha a SpaceX elégedett a csütörtöki teszt eredményével, a Starship már a következő hetekben felszállhat.
A rakétapróbát a texasi-mexikói határon lévő Boca Chicában, a SpaceX kutatő-fejlesztő létesítményében végezték.
Elon Musk, a cég tulajdonosa a Twitteren azt írta, csapata a teszt előtt kikapcsolta az egyik hajtóművet, egy másik leállította magát, így összesen 31 indult be. Azonban ezek „elegendőek a pályára álláshoz” – tette hozzá Musk.
A Starshiphez leginkább a szovjetek által a hatvanas években kifejlesztett N1 hasonlítható, melyet az űrhajósok Holdra juttatására építettek. Az N1-nek harminc hajtóműve volt két gyűrűben elhelyezve, azonban mind a négy repülése kudarccal végződött, végül lemondtak róla.
A SpaceX Super Heavy hordozórakéta a 33 modern hajtóművel durván 70 százalékkal nagyobb tolóerőt fejthet ki az indítóállásról, mint az N1. Még az amerikai űrkutatási hivatal (NASA) megarakétája, a novemberben már felbocsátott Space Lauch System (SLS) is eltörpül a Starshipbe tervezett kapacitás mellett.
Musk nagy reményeket fűz az űrjárműhöz, műholdakat és embereket akar vele Föld körüli pályára és azon túli úti célokra küldeni. A NASA már leszerződött a SpaceX-szel, hogy fejlesszen ki olyan változatot, amely részt vehet az Artemis programban, melyben újra űrhajósok szállnának le a Holdon.
