Volodimir Zelenszki elnök jelenlétében kezdetét vette a Rapid Trident–2020 (Gyors Szigony) elnevezésű nemzetközi hadgyakorlat csütörtökön Lemberg megyében, a manőverekben 10 ország 4 ezer katonája vesz részt – adta hírül a korrespondent.net hírportál.
A hadgyakorlat kezdete alkalmából a Béketeremtés és Biztonság Nemzetközi Központjában tartott rendezvényen mondott beszédében az államfő prioritásai között a donbászi béke megteremtése mellett a (megszállt) ukrán területek visszavételét és az erős hadsereget nevezte meg. Mint hangsúlyozta, a NATO-csatlakozás Ukrajna stratégiai célja, ezért a lehető leggyorsabban el kell érni, hogy az ukrán fegyveres erők kompatibilisek legyenek a szövetség országainak hadseregeivel. Ugyancsak szorgalmazta azoknak a reformoknak a végrehajtását, amelyek a NATO-tagság eléréséhez szükségesek.
Zelenszkij a Rapid Trident–2020 hadgyakorlatot fontos lépésnek nevezte a NATO-csatlakozáshoz vezető úton. A manővereknek növelniük kell az ukrán haderő felkészültségi és operativitási szintjét – tette hozzá, megjegyezve, hogy a gyakorlat elősegíti Ukrajna, az USA és más NATO-tagállamok katonai törzskarai közötti kompatibilitás fejlesztését. Azt is hangsúlyozta, Ukrajnának fel kell gyorsítania a reformokat, hogy felajánlják számára a csatlakozást a NATO-tagság előszobájának tekintett cselekvési tervhez.
