Az Európai Unió rendőri együttműködési szervezete (Europol) az Ukrajnával és Fehéroroszországgal szomszédos valamennyi ország határvédelméhez segítséget nyújt, hamarosan Magyarországon is; szakemberek és vendégtisztek biztonsági ellenőrzésekkel és nyomozással támogatják a nemzeti hatóságokat az európai külső határokon – tájékoztatott az uniós szervezet pénteken.
Közölték, az érintett országok kérésére az Europol szakemberei már jelen vannak Litvániában, Lengyelországban, Romániában, Szlovákiában és Moldovában, a tervek szerint hamarosan Magyarországon is.
A kisegítő személyzet feladata, hogy megvédje az Európai Uniót és az ukrán menekülteket a bűnügyi fenyegetésektől. Azonosítják azokat a bűnözőket és terroristákat, akik a háborús helyzetet kihasználva a menekültáradattal próbálnak bejutni az Európai Unióba. A szakemberek és vendégtisztek információkat is gyűjtenek, amelyeket európai szintű bűnügyi fenyegetések értékelésére és a megfelelő válaszlépések kidolgozására használnak majd – közölték.
Az ukrán illetékes hatóságokkal kiegészülő együttműködés keretében végzett információgyűjtés lehetővé teszi az Europol számára, hogy előre jelezze a biztonságra fenyegetést jelentő fejleményeket. Összehangolja az operatív tevékenységeket az uniós tagállamokkal, hogy gyorsan tudjon reagálni az ukrajnai háború okozta állapotok kihasználására törekvő bűnözői csoportok tevékenységeire – tették hozzá.
Az uniós tagállamok kérésére az Europol 2016 óta segíti a bűnelhárítást a Földközi-tenger migrációs gócpontjaiban – közölték.
