Az orosz médiában megjelentek szerint, a kedden kezdődő repülési kiállításon mutatják be az új orosz vadászgépet, amit a Szuhoj repülőgépgyártó épített, egy könnyebb, olcsóbb taktikai vadászgép kifejlesztését célzó program részeként. A legújabb, két hajtóművel rendelkező orosz vadászrepülőgéppel (Su-57 ) ellentétben az új repülőgép kisebb és egyetlen hajtóművel van felszerelve.
Az oroszok nem bízzák a véletlenre a felhajtást, a repülőgépgyártó cégeket is holdingjában tudó Rostec nevű ipari vállalat Facebook-oldalán a gép egyik tükröződő felületén látszik az a brit hadihajó, amely túl közel merészkedett a krími félszigethez június végén, amire válaszul az orosz flóta járőrhajója figyelmeztető lövéseket adott le, egy vadászgép pedig bombákat dobott le a közelében. A Rostec által megosztott képen, amin az új vadászgép egy részlete látszik, a következő a szöveg: See you, azaz viszlát!
Az orosz repülőgépgyártókat is magában foglaló állami tulajdonú Rostec megelégedetten arról számolt be, hogy „alapvetően új katonai repülőgépeket” mutatnak be kedden a moszkvai légi bemutatón – közölte az abcnews.go.com.
Az új harci repülőgép neve ismeretlen, és nincsenek adatok a képességeiről, illetve technikai adottságairól.
A Kreml az ország fegyveres erőinek modernizálását kiemelt fontosságúvá nyilvánította, azt követően, hogy a 2014-ben Oroszországhoz annektálták a Krím-félszigetet, amely cselekmény nyomán a Nyugattal fenntartott kapcsolatok a hidegháború utáni mélypontra süllyedtek.
