Hetvenkét tigris pusztult el az elmúlt hetekben Észak-Thaiföld egyik vadasparkjában vírus- és bakteriális fertőzés következtében – közölte az MTI szombaton a helyi hatóságokra hivatkozva.
A Csiangmaj tartományi állattenyésztési hivatal tájékoztatása szerint a vizsgálatok kimutatták a nagyon ragályos szopornyicavírus, valamint a légzőrendszert támadó baktériumok jelenlétét a megbetegedett állatokban.
„Egy tigris esetében nehezebb észrevenni, hogy megbetegedett, mint például a házi macskáknál vagy a kutyáknál. Mire rájöttünk, hogy betegek, már késő volt” – mondta el újságíróknak Szomcsuan Ratanamungklanon, a hivatal igazgatója. A nagymacskák a Tiger Kingdom nevű magán vadasparkhoz tartoztak, ahol a park weboldala szerint a turisták „megérinthetik, simogathatják és közeli fotókat is készíthetnek a tigrisekről”.
„Ezek a tigrisek úgy haltak meg, ahogyan éltek: nyomorban, fogságban és félelemben” – hívta fel a figyelmet a PETA Ázsia elnevezésű állatvédő szervezet. Hozzátette, hogy ha a turisták nem látogatnák ezeket a vadasparkokat, gyorsan gazdaságilag fenntarthatatlanná válnának, és az ehhez hasonló tragédiák lényegesen ritkábbak lennének.
A szopornyica egy rendkívül fertőző, vírusos betegség (CDV), amely elsősorban a kutyaféléket támadja meg, de kívül a fertőzést elkaphatják a menyétfélék, pandák, egyes főemlősök, a nagymacskák és a házimacska is, de utóbbiakban lefolyása tünetmentes. Az emberre nem jelent veszélyt. A betegség tünetei közé tartozik a láz, a légzőszervi és emésztési panaszok, valamint a súlyos idegrendszeri tünetek. A gyakran halálos kimenetelű betegség ellen nincs specifikus gyógyszer, ezért a megelőzés leghatékonyabb módja a rendszeres védőoltás.

Harminc év után először bukkantak tigrisekre Thaiföld legrégebbi rezervátumában – írja az MTI a Bangkok Post című helyi napilapra hivatkozva hétfőn.
A kameracsapdák megerősítették, hogy legalább hat ritka indokínai tigris kóborol a Salak Phra Rezervátum trópusi erdeiben. A csoportnak egy anya és két kölyke is tagja. Egy helyi szakértő szerint a nagymacskák jelenléte azt mutatja, hogy a természetvédelmi terület ökoszisztémája jó állapotban van.
A Salak Phra Rezervátum a thaiföldi fővárostól, Bangkoktól nyugatra fekvő Kancsanaburi közelében található.
Az indokínai tigris súlyosan veszélyeztetett faj, amelynek egyik kiemelten fontos élőhelye Thaiföld. Az állományt az orvvadászat, az illegális kereskedelem és az élőhely elvesztése veszélyezteti a leginkább.
