„Keltsen reményt vagy félelmet az ukrajnai konfliktus, Volodimir Zelenszkij oly módon lelkesítette a világot, amilyent évtizedek óta nem láttunk” – írta Edward Felsenthal, a Time főszerkesztője, akinek a választás sosem volt olyan egyértelmű, mint 2022-ben.



Zelenszkij nem volt hajlandó elhagyni Kijevet a háború kezdetén, amikor a fővárost bombázták, az egykori színész a fővárosból sugárzott adásokban lelkesítette a honfitársait és beutazta háború dúlta országát – jegyezte meg egyebek mellett a főszerkesztő. „Zelenszkij háborús vezetőként annak köszönheti sikerét, hogy a bátorsága ragályos” – olvasható a magazinban.



Az újság címlapján a 44 éves egykori színész látható, arcán többnapos borostával, közismert keki színű pulóverében,
körülötte a civil társadalom vezéralakjai, a háttérben az ország kék-sárga zászlaját magasba emelő tüntetők tömegével.



2021-ben Elon Musk milliárdos vállalkozót, a SpaceX, a Tesla és azóta már a Twitter tulajdonosát, 2020-ban Joe Biden amerikai elnököt és Kamala Harris alelnököt választották az Év emberévé. 2007-ben Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnök, 1938-ban pedig Adolf Hitlert kapta meg a címet. Az 1923-ban alapított magazin 1927 óta jelöli ki minden év végén az Év emberét.
