Vadim Szkibitszkij, az ukrán védelmi minisztérium hírszerzési főigazgatóságának (GUR) képviselője szerint csaknem egymillió 122 és 152 mm-es, Észak-Koreából szállított lőszerről lehet szó. Szkibitszkij szerint ugyanis Moszkvának éppen ennyi lövedéke hiányzott, de hangsúlyozta, hogy jelenleg is folyik a vonatkozó információk beszerzése.
Január 4-én a Fehér Ház nemzetbiztonsági szóvivője, John Kirby kijelentette, hogy Oroszország ballisztikus rakétákat vásárolt Észak-Koreától, amelyeket már használtak is az Ukrajna elleni támadásokhoz, Harkivot vették célba.
