A klímaváltozással járó hőhullámok fokozzák az erdőtüzek kockázatát, melyek világszerte egyre nagyobb problémát jelentenek. Mivel a száraz, fás, bozótos területeken a lángok gyorsan terjednek, a tűz mielőbbi észlelése és a tűzoltás megkezdése kulcsfontosságú az erdőterület védelme érdekében. Ebben nyújthat segítséget a Vodafone felhő alapú IoT riasztórendszere, amely még az „aranyórában” lehetővé teszi a reagálást.
Tavaly Szardínián és a Földközi-tenger más térségeiben több erdőtűz is pusztított, összesen 20 000 hektáron csaptak fel a lángok. A tüzek következtében 1000 ember kényszerült elhagyni az otthonát és 30 millió méh veszett oda. Az ehhez hasonló erdőtüzek a globális CO2-kibocsátás 20%-áért felelősek, leküzdésük pedig nagyjából 5 milliárd dollárba kerül.
A Vodafone Business ezért egy új, IoT ultrakorai erdőtűz-észlelő rendszert állít fel Szardínia azon régiójában, amelyet 2021 nyarán az erdőtüzek leginkább sújtottak: a Mesh Gateway hosszú élettartamú, alacsony fogyasztású, nagy hálózati kiterjedésű (LPWAN) érzékelői a fákra helyezve az úgynevezett parázslási fázist detektálják, így azelőtt riasztanak, hogy a tűz elterjedne.
Ez jelentősen lerövidíti a reakcióidőt és segít megóvni az erdő többi területét a gyorsan terjedő futótüzektől. A felhőalapú megoldás legnagyobb előnye, hogy sokkal gyorsabb riasztja a hatóságokat, mint például a kamerás vagy műholdas rendszerek.

Az Ukrajnában zajló orosz invázió miatt adott ki közleményt a három telekommunikációs nagyvállalat.
„Az Ukrajnában kialakult helyzetre tekintettel a Telekom ügyfelei 2022. február 1-től (visszavonásig) ukrajnai roaming partnerhálózatokon forgalmazott roaming díjait, beleértve az alapdíjas hanghívásokat, az alapdíjas SMS-eket és a mobilinternet forgalmat, teljes mértékben, összeghatár nélkül jóváírja annak érdekében, hogy a hozzátartozóikkal történő kommunikációjukat támogassa” – írja a Telekom.
A Vodafone is közleményt adott ki, azt írják, minden Ukrajnában tartózkodó lakossági ügyfelének díjmentessé teszik a roamingot, az SMS-, adat- és hívásforgalom esetében egyaránt. A díjmentes forgalmazás Magyarországra indított hívásokra és SMS-ekre, valamint az Ukrajnán belüli forgalmazásra vonatkozik.
A Telekom és a Vodafone közleménye után végül a Telenor Magyarország is a mai naptól (visszavonásig) jóváírja az Ukrajnában tartózkodó ügyfelei adat, hang és SMS roaming díjait. A kialakult helyzetre való tekintettel a Magyarországról ukrán alapdíjas telefonszámokra irányuló nemzetközi hívások díját szintén (visszavonásig) jóváírja ügyfeleinek a szolgáltató.

A Vodafone Magyarország anyavállalata digitális műtárgyként ad túl a legendás szöveges üzeneten.
Egyre nagyobb biznisszé válik az NFT-k, azaz a virtuális műtárgyak piaca. A Non-fungible Token magyar megfelelője a nem helyettesíthető tárgy, vagyis olyan digitálisan tárolt információ, amiből valóban csak egy létezik, ehhez pedig a blokklánc-technológiát hívják segítségül.
Most maga a Vodafone is kipróbálja magát az NFT-k területén, noha nem a meggazdagodási vágy érdekében, hanem jó ügyből kifolyólag: a Vodafone Magyarország anyavállalata, a Vodafone Group ugyanis aukcióra bocsájtja a világ első elküldött SMS-ét, amelyet a hálózatukon keresztül, 1992. december 3-án, egy karácsonyi buli alkalmával továbbítottak a cég alkalmazottjának, Richard Jarvisnak. A szöveges üzenet tartalma: „Merry Christmas”, azaz „Boldog karácsonyt”.
A december 21-én, kedden megtartandó online árverésen digitális műtárgyként lehet majd beszerezni az SMS-t továbbító részletes kommunikációs protokoll egyedi másolatát, a Vodafone pedig a kriptovalutában befolyt összeget jótékony célra fordítja, azt teljes egészében az ENSZ Menekültügyi Főbiztossága fogja megkapni.
