Провідні ЗМІ звинувачують інтернет-гіганта в „цільовій рекламі, заснованій на масовому та незаконному зборі персональних даних користувачів”. Позивачі хочуть отримати компенсацію за економічні збитки через, як вони вважають, нечесну комерційну практику Meta, яка, за їхніми словами, „масово збирала персональні дані своїх користувачів без інформування або запиту (їхньої) згоди, грубо порушуючи європейські правила захисту даних (GDPR)”.
„Використовуючи ці дані, щоб запропонувати надцільову рекламу, Meta змогла отримати більшу частину рекламних інвестицій на шкоду ЗМІ », — стверджують юристи, описуючи такий спільний фронт як «вперше в історії».
