A 33 éves énekesnő nyerte az év előadóművésze díjat, amelyért először versenyeztek női és férfi előadók is egy kategóriában. Adele a mezőnyben a rapper Little Simz és Dave, valamint Ed Sheeran és Sam Fender elől szerezte meg a trófeát.
A Brit Awards szervezői tavaly novemberben jelentették be, hogy más díjátadókhoz csatlakozva 2022-től eltörlik a nemek szerinti megosztottságot a díjkategóriákban.
Mo Gilligan, az est házigazdája „a Brit Awards királynőjének” nevezte a londoni születésű énekes-dalszerző Adele-t. A sztár Easy on Me című listavezető dalával elvitte az év legjobb számáért járó díjat is. A szám az énekesnő 30 című lemezén jelent meg, amely – mint mondta – válását segített feldolgozni neki és kisfiának. A lemez az év albuma díjat is megkapta.
Bár Adele negyedik stúdióalbuma, a 30 csak novemberben jelent meg, 2021-ben ez lett a legkelendőbb lemez Nagy-Britanniában, hat hét alatt több mint 600 ezer példányban vásárolták meg. Az énekesnő az év producere díjat elnyerő Infónak (eredeti nevén Dean Josiah Covernek) is megköszönte, hogy segített neki a lemez elkészítésében.
A díjátadón a legjobb együttes elismerését a Wolf Alice rockbanda kapta, Little Simz pedig a legjobb új előadóművész díját vehette át. Ed Sheeran az év dalszerzője díjával gazdagította gyűjteményét.
Billie Eilish és Olivia Rodrigo amerikai előadóként a legjobb nemzetközi előadó díját kapta, Rodrigo pedig a legjobb nemzetközi szám díját is elnyerte a Good 4 U című dalával.
Az év legjobb nemzetközi együttese az amerikai R&B-duó, a Silk Sonic lett, amelyben Bruno Mars és a rapper Anderson Paak zenél.
A különböző zenei stílusok népszerűsítésére négy új műfaji díjat is bevezettek a 42. díjátadón, ezekről a közönség szavazhatott. Sam Fender a legjobb alternatív/rock előadónak járó díjat nyerte el, míg Dave a legjobb hip-hop/grime/rap előadónak járó elismerést. A legjobb pop/R’n’B előadónak járó díjat Dua Lipa énekesnő kapta, míg Becky Hill a legjobb táncért járó díjat nyerte el.
